Muscat – Court in Muscat Governorate has delivered significant judicial rulings against a commercial establishment operating within the travel and tourism sector and its official representative. This legal action follows the successful investigation of 26 formal complaints lodged by consumers who had engaged the firm to coordinate tourism programmes, including international travel, hotel accommodations, and transportation services. Despite the complainants settling their payments in full, the establishment failed to deliver the promised services, exacerbated by persistent delays and a total breakdown in communication. The company eventually ceased operations, leaving the affected clients unable to recover their funds or receive their contracted services. Upon reviewing the evidence provided, which included signed contracts and financial receipts, the court found the establishment and its representative guilty of violating the Consumer Protection Law, as promulgated by Royal Decree No. 66/2014, and its associated executive regulations. Consequently, the presiding judge imposed a six-month prison sentence upon the representative of the establishment. Furthermore, the defendants were ordered to pay financial fines totalling RO5,200, at a rate of RO100 for each of the 26 cases. The court also mandated a full refund of amount paid by the consumers and ordered the defendants to cover the costs of […]

The Advocate General and Head of the Terror Crimes Prosecution stated that the Public Prosecution has commenced investigations into the dismantling of the main organization linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the ideology of Wilayat al-Faqih. The organization was allegedly formed by members of the dissolved Islamic Scholars Council and was engaged in promoting the ideology of Wilayat al-Faqih and its extremist concepts, advocating loyalty to the Supreme Jurist in Iran above loyalty to the homeland and its constitutional system. According to the statement, the organization aimed to facilitate Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain through exerting influence over mosques, mourning halls (ma’atems), and religious seminaries (hawzas), and by exploiting their platforms to disseminate its ideology, alongside delivering inflammatory sermons against the interests of the nation. The group is also accused of recruiting individuals to join its activities, study the doctrine of Wilayat al-Faqih in Iran, and promote it within Bahrain. The investigations further revealed allegations that the organization sought to marginalize and intimidate religious scholars who opposed the doctrine of Wilayat al-Faqih, issuing religious rulings against them, subjecting them to ideological intimidation, and, in some cases, threatening the use of violence. Muscat: The judicial officers at the Consumer Protection Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate seized more than 500 tyres that did not conform to applicable standards and specifications during routine inspection visits to tyre retail outlets. The total value of the seized tyres was estimated at OMR13,000. The data displayed on the tyres was found to be inconsistent with the information stated on the Gulf Standard Specification label in terms of the manufacturing date. The tyres were marked as being manufactured in 2026, whereas the information shown on the specification label indicated that they were manufactured in 2024. It was subsequently discovered that the specification labels attached to the tyres had been affixed to facilitate their sale. This constitutes a clear violation of the Consumer Protection Law, its Executive Regulation, and the decisions and circulars regulating tyres. Accordingly, all seized items were confiscated and the necessary legal procedures were completed against the violating establishment. The Consumer Protection Authority affirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts to combat unlawful practices and prevent the circulation of unsafe products in the market, thereby contributing to the enhancement of a safe and stable consumer environment.
