The third edition of the Liwa Date Festival and Auction, opened on Friday Oct. 11 at the Zayed City, Al Dhafra. Being held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the event will continue until October 20. The festival, organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, welcomed the Republic of Iraq as the guest of honour for this edition, with the aim of strengthening ties, exchanging agricultural expertise, and enhancing relations between the two countries in vital sectors. Hertiage festival The event aims to establish itself as one of the foremost international heritage festivals by promoting the production and processing of dates, showcasing the finest varieties, contributing to food security strategies, and encouraging farmers and date producers to improve the quality of their products. It will also serve as a platform for exchanging expertise and research on palm cultivation. Celebrating the 2024 date harvesting season, the festival will feature 20 competitions with a total of 167 prizes, including nine date competitions, two cooking contests, five honey competitions, and two each for photography and painting. Six cities in Saudi Arabia will soon have Hot Wheels-themed e-kart race tracks as part of a SR50bn ($13.3bn) investment spend. Saudi Entertainment Ventures (SEVEN), part of Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC), a wholly owned Public Investment Fund (PIF) entity, and toy company MATTEL announced that they will be bringing the Hot Wheels e-karting racing tracks to six cities across Saudi Arabia. With the addition of Hot Wheels e-karts, SEVEN continues to bolster its portfolio and further build the karting community following its announcement earlier this year that it would be bringing indoor e-karting centres to multiple SEVEN entertainment destinations. A new bus service catering to residents and tourists going to Global Village will start from October 16, the Ajman Road and Transport Authority announced on Monday. Tickets for the service being rolled out on the ‘Global Village Route’ will cost Dh25. Residents can enjoy the trip to Global Village when they use their Masaar Card. This announcement comes after Global Village confirmed that its new season will kick off on October 16. Three buses will depart from Al-Musalla station in Ajman to Global Village, and another three will depart from Global Village to Ajman. The trip will start from Al-Musalla Station to Global Village and back to Al Musalla Station — with the first bus departing Ajman at 2.15pm and the last at 6.15pm. The first trip from Global Village will be at 3.45pm and the last will depart at 12.30am on weekdays. On the weekend, the last trip from Global Village will depart at 1.30am. A wealthy Italian tourist was left outraged after being chased down and reprimanded by a waiter for the tip he had left at a glamorous holiday hotspot. As a result the man described as “very rich” by local media has vowed to never return to the French Riviera again. Four Seasons Hotel: A Landmark of the French Riviera The diner had thought his tip to be quite generous considering he had left £429 (€500). However, he was allegedly pursued by the staff member to the carpark of the restaurant in the prestigious resort and told it “wasn’t enough”. Here the waiter scolded the tourist for not reaching the “minimum” amount required – £859 (€1000). Artists, students, families, and community members in Jeddah created an eye-catching mural on the Corniche in honor of the city’s teachers, featuring the slogan: “We all appreciate you.” The mural project is a collaborative effort between Jeddah Education, Jeddah Municipality, and the Distinguished Initiatives Association as part of World Teachers’ Day. The creation, which features an array of colors telling the story of education in Saudi Arabia, is expected to enter into the Guinness World Records as more than 30,000 people from various segments of society participated in the creating the world’s largest mural to dedicated to teachers, organizers said. A high-profile Saudi falconry exhibition has started in Riyadh and runs for 10 days with the participation of 400 exhibitors from 45 countries. The Saudi International Falcons and Hunting Exhibition 2024 is organised by the Saudi Falcons Club in Malham north of Riyadh. Held under the theme “A World That Looks like You”, the exhibition offers a range of activities set to enrich the visitors’ experience. Set up on a total area of around 160,000 square metres, the event features activities that include daily workshops on falcons, their care and breeding, supplies, food, camping, safaris, and hunting weapons, motorcycles, bicycles, and four-wheel drive vehicles. Besides, a zone, dubbed the Future Falconers Programme, is designated for children with recreational, and educational activities. The first leg of the annual local camel races for the 2024/2025 season, organised by the Oman Camel Racing Federation, kicked off today at Al-Bashir Camel Race Track in the Wilayat of Adam in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, and will continue for three days. Today’s race witnessed the holding of 18 rounds for the category of Hajjaj, including 12 rounds for young camels and 6 rounds for Jaadan for a distance of “3” kilometers with the participation of about 650 camels and Jaadan from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
