Bahrain inmates will be given the opportunity to study for master’s degrees. An initiative aimed at allowing inmates to pursue their university studies has been unveiled. The initiative, which is coordinated with the Ministry of Interior, reflects commitment to enabling all citizens to develop their capabilities and contribute to developing their communities, said Education Minister, Higher Education Council (HEC) Board of Trustees’ Chairman Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma. In a statement, Dr. Juma praised the support of the Minister of Interior General Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to joint work to implement the best practices and care for inmates’ rights. A batch of 192 inmates from reformation and rehabilitation centres will be registered after expressing their desire to study for their bachelor and master’s degrees. He pointed out that the council held a series of meetings with competent authorities before launching the initiatives, extending thanks to the Ministry of Interior, as well as higher education institutions for their cooperation. The inmates will be registered in academic majors which include business management, accounting and geography and history.

Government schools are ready to welcome students on September 6, signalling the start of the academic year 2023-2024. Committees have been set up to follow up on procedures and distribute discount coupons on stationery to parents, said Schools Affairs Director General Suha Saleh Hamada. In a statement, she hailed fruitful cooperation between the public and private sectors, noting that this partnership will provide more options to get affordable prices for parents. Schools are also ready to hold induction days for parents and students on Monday and Tuesday in implementation of the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Officials from the Ministry of Education as well as specialists from the four education zones will be present at schools that will be holding induction days for students and parents.

The General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Women’s Youth Committee recently held an educational competition called “I’m Looking for Treasure”. The purpose of this competition was to highlight the achievements of Bahraini women and the efforts made by the Council over the past 22 years. The event took place at the Center for Developing the Capabilities of Bahraini Women “Riyadat” and saw the participation of 70 individuals, including members of the Youth Committee and youth committees from various civil sector institutions. The participants were divided into 22 teams and had to answer 22 questions to find the hidden treasure within the center. This interactive competition was part of the Youth Committee’s program to familiarise young people with the important programs and initiatives of the Supreme Council for Women. The committee has organised several events this year, including the “Athar Digital Art Exhibition” and interactive awareness lectures.

The British School of Bahrain is celebrating its A Level and AS Level results, which were released on Thursday 17th August. Aldar Properties has announced its expansion of investment in the education sector across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain. This includes the acquisition of Kent College Dubai and Virginia International Private School, Abu Dhabi. The group announced a commitment of AED1 billion in 2022 and the new announcement adds a further AED350 million to the investment portfolio.
