Air India Ceases Operations On Muscat-Delhi Route

Air India has ceased its operations on the Muscat-Delhi route, with the final flight recently departing from the Oman’s capital to Delhi. This marks the end of Air India’s long-standing presence in Oman. Previously, Air India operated flights from Muscat to several Indian cities, including Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi. The Muscat-Hyderabad route was the first to be discontinued, followed by flights to Chennai and Bengaluru. Subsequently, the Mumbai route was terminated, and finally, the last flight to Delhi concluded Air India’s operations from Muscat.

Oman: Over 130 Commercial Establishments Seized For Non-Compliance With Electronic Payment System

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Investment Promotion, represented by the Inspection Department, carried out several inspection campaigns on shops and filling stations to enhance preparedness for Khareef Dhofar 2024 season. The campaigns aimed to confirm the ministry’s commitment to providing quality services to consumers and to assess the compliance of commercial and service establishments with the Ministry’s requirements. As a result of the campaign, 131 commercial establishments were issued violation reports for failing to provide an electronic payment device, as required by Ministry regulations for facilitating consumer transactions. The Ministry’s Inspection Department visited and evaluated the service levels at several fuel stations situated along the Adam-Haima-Thumrait line, Mahout Salalah Road, and in Dhofar Governorate. A total of 59 gas stations were inspected, leading to warnings being issued to 10 stations for failing to comply with the standards and requirements established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Investment Promotion. No Permission Required To Run Offers And Promotions In Oman

In a drive aimed at enhancing the business environment, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) announced that the commercial establishments in Oman no longer need prior permission from the ministry to run promotions and offers. The decision, made in collaboration with the Consumer Protection Authority, is designed to stimulate commercial activities, enhance market competitiveness, and provide products at reasonable prices, says the commerce ministry. But some strings are attached to the discount and promotion offers: The discounts and promotional offers should not exceed 3 consecutive days in a week . Moreover, promotions should not be offered more than three times a month and the maximum amount of discount is 30%. While prior permission is no longer required for offering rebates, the companies must notify the Consumer Protection Authority if they intend to offer discounts or offers. The commerce ministry’s initiative aims to create an environment that benefits both businesses and consumers in Oman.

Oman: 11 Thieves Target Single House In Muscat

Muscat residents were left stunned when 11 thieves, working in calculated unison, targeted a lone house, setting their sights on cash and treasured personal gold jewellery. The Royal Oman Police swiftly responded, and apprehended the robbers. All suspects were Asian and employed within the Sultanate, the police said. The police, however, did not reveal whose house they had targeted.

Oman Plans To Build OMR12 Million Film City

Oman is set to build a ‘Film City’ costing more than OMR 12 million ($31.2 million) to boost its entertainment industry. The decision to proceed with the project came after workshops conducted by the ministry of sports, culture, and youth in March, as reported by Oman Daily Observer, quoting a government official. Iran, Sweden Free Prisoners In Oman-Mediated Swap

Iran and Sweden announced yesterday a prisoner exchange that saw a former Iranian official jailed in Sweden freed as Stockholm said Tehran had released a European Union diplomat and a second Swede. “Hamid Noury, who has been in illegal detention in Sweden since 2019, is free and will return to the country in a few hours,” Kazem Gharibabadi, head of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, said in a post on social media platform X. Shortly afterwards, Sweden’s prime minister said Johan Floderus, an EU diplomat, and another Swedish national who were held in Iran had been released and were on a flight home. The Saudi eSports Federation has announced that Riyadh will be hosting the GCC eSports League 2024 finals from June 27 to 28, 2024.
