One Arrested For Vandalism, Theft In Sohar

A person has been arrested by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) for vandalism and stealing money from shops in different locations in the Wilayat of Sohar, North Al Batinah Governorate. A statement issued online by ROP said :”North Al Batinah Governorate Police Command arrested an Arab national for vandalism and theft of money from the storage of a number of shops in different locations in the Wilayat of Sohar. Legal procedures are being completed against him.”

Oman: Classes Suspended In Some Governorates Due To Expected Rain

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation has announced the suspension of classes in educational institutions and the conversion of study to distance learning in some governorates of the Sultanate of Oman due to the expected heavy rains on September 30, 2024. The Ministry said in a statement :”Referring to the information received from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center regarding heavy rains in the period from this afternoon in some wilayats in the governorates adjacent to the Al Hajar Mountains in the Governorates of South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah and the southern parts of Muscat Governorate.” The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation would like to announce the suspension of study in educational institutions and the shift to distance learning in the above-mentioned governorates in the period from this afternoon, September 30, 2024.

Oman Introduces New Fee for Medical Errors Report

Oman has announced a new fee of OMR25 for studying requests for reports proving medical errors, offered by the Ministry of Health. According to Article 1 of the new decision, this fee applies when a request is submitted by the concerned individual to the Ministry of Health for an assessment of whether a medical error has occurred. However, Article 2 states that individuals eligible for the family income support benefit, as outlined in the Social Protection Law (Royal Decree No. 52/2023), will be exempt from this fee. Article 3 stipulates that the fee will be refunded if a medical error is confirmed by the Supreme Medical Committee or through a court Oman has affirmed commitment to ensure the safety of medical patients, as the country works to reduce the number of medical errors committed annually. The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center has forecasted potential cloud formation, rainfall, and thunderstorms across various parts of the country, particularly affecting its coastal and mountainous regions. Starting Sunday, the Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates, along with the Al Hajar Mountains and adjacent areas, are expected to see cloud advection and rain of varying intensity. Oman Issues New Guidelines on Suspension of Classes During Rain

Oman has released revised guidelines on the cancellation or suspension of classes in schools in the event of rain across Omani governorates both within the public and private educational institutions. The move aims to promote the “safety and protection of learners and personnel from unnecessary physical dangers” that they may be exposed to during heavy rains. It is also meant to minimise the health and safety risks amid severe weather conditions. In the newly-issued guidelines issued by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, a protocol has been established to guide decisions on whether to suspend classes. The National Emergency Management Committee will be responsible for making and announcing these decisions. The committee will oversee initial recovery efforts in coordination with military, security and civil agencies. Over 20 Arrested for Entering Oman Illegally

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested more than 20 people for attempting to enter the Sultanate of Oman illegally. A statement issued online by ROP said :”Coast Guard Police boats led by North Al Batinah Governorate Police seized a boat carrying 25 infiltrators of Asian nationalities while they were trying to enter the country illegally. The legal procedures are being completed against them.”

Oman Cancels Over 3,000 Commercial Registrations, Citing Closure, Expired Licenses

The Sultanate of Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion announced Tuesday it has cancelled 3,415 commercial registrations, citing reasons that the businesses have ceased their operations or their licenses have expired. The move to cancel commercial registrations is part of the Ministry’s efforts to regulate the market and ensure that all active commercial registrations represent operational institutions in compliance with existing laws. Well-known Omani poet Zahir Al Ghafri has died at the age of 68 in Sweden after a prolonged illness. Al Ghafri was regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Sultanate of Oman’s literary scene, particularly in shaping modern Omani poetry. Al Gafri passed away in a hospital in Malmo, Sweden, on Saturday after a long fight with liver cirrhosis.
