Oman: Earthquake Recorded in Gulf of Aden

An earthquake was recorded in the Gulf of Aden on Sunday, March 17, 2024, the Earthquake Monitoring Centre (EMC) at Sultan Qaboos University said. A statement issued online by the EMC said: “An earthquake in Gulf of Aden with a magnitude of 5.3, at 10.03 am MCT and at a depth of 10 km has been recorded. The earthquake was recorded 809 km away from Salalah.”

Two Arrested for Displaying Stunts, Drifting in Oman

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested two people for displaying stunts and drifting their vehicles and 129 bicycles and 19 motorcycles were seized for violating traffic rules and regulations, disturbing public comfort and tranquilly, and exposing road users to danger in North Al Batinah Governorate. ROP said in a statement: “The North Al Batinah Governorate Police Command arrests two people for displaying and drifting a vehicle, and seizes 129 bicycles and 19 motorcycles for violating traffic rules and regulations, disturbing public comfort and tranquilly, and exposing road users to danger. Legal procedures are being completed against them.”

Oman International Buses to Expand Its Services

The Muscat-Riyadh bus service, launched recently, provides affordable options to umrah travelers from Oman and other GCC countries to visit Saudi Arabia during the spring season. Rashid al Khanjry, CEO of Al Khanjry transport, said there are plans to include routes to Damamam from Muscat as well as Qatar and Bahrain. “A bus trip certainly takes around 20 hours depending on various factors, but it certainly offers a viable option for travelers with a one way fare of OR25 (Dh238),” said Khanjry With flight ticket prices continuing to increase, it is reasonable to travel by land to neighboring countries. Fake Website Scam Busted in Oman, Five Arrested

Five people were arrested for electronic fraud by creating a fake website to lure victims, said the Royal Oman Police (ROP). ROP said in a statement :”The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations arrests five people of Arab nationalities for committing fraud by creating a fake website identical to one of the official websites with the aim of luring victims to provide their bank information in exchange for certain services. They would later seize sums of money from their bank accounts and invest them in the digital currency market. Legal procedures are being completed against them.”

An expat has been arrested for possessing more than 20 kilograms of crystal drug in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. Royal Oman Police (ROP), said in a statement :”The North Al Sharqiyah Governorate Police Command, with the support of the Ibra Special Tasks Police Unit, arrests a person of Asian nationality in possession of more than 20 kilograms of crystal drug . The legal procedures are being completed against him.”

Oman: Royal Opera House Muscat To Host 2024 Ramadan Concert Series

The Royal Opera House Muscat will organise 2024 Ramadan concert series. Oman Announces New Fees For Ministry Of Health Services, Including Licenses For Hospitals, Clinics, Pharmacies And Labs

Oman has announced a new fee structure for various services, including issuing of licenses, offered by the Ministry of Health. According to Article 1 of the new decision, the fees will be applicable over a three-year period. The fees for issuing or renewing various licenses within Oman’s healthcare sector have been revised under the new decision. For instance, the fee for issuing or renewing a hospital licence has been set at 3,000 Omani riyals (about Dh28,625). Similarly, the fees for pharmaceutical-related establishments has also been updated, with 1,500 riyals designated for issuing or renewing a pharmaceutical factory license, as well as for a medical supplies factory licence. Additionally, the fees for a pharmaceutical warehouse licence stands at 450 riyals, while for renewing a public pharmacy licence is set at 300. Optical shopsMoreover, licenses for specialised facilities such as pharmaceutical studies centres and drug analysis laboratories range between 300 and 600 riyals.
