Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Parts of Oman

Oman Meteorology has issued a weather alert predicting heavy rainfall in various governorates on Thursday, December 26, 2024. Rainfall of 15-35 mm expected along coastal areas of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Muscat. 5-15 mm over Musandam, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiya, and South Al Sharqiya. Following are the expected impacts announced by Oman Meteorology: 1. Heavy thundershowers with hail may cause flash floods (Wadis). 2. Strong downdraft active winds with speeds of 15-35 knots (28-64 km/h). 3. Sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts (1.5 – 2.5 meters). 4. Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers. Oman Beats Qatar 2-1 At Khaleeji Cup 26

Oman won 2-1 against Qatar in the Gulf Cup 26 Group A match. Qatar took the lead in the 2nd minute through Ali Abdullah, but Oman equalised with a 20th-minute penalty by Issam Al-Sobhi and scored again in the 52nd minute. Oman, with 4 points, now tops the group after drawing 1-1 with Kuwait in their opening match. Qatar, with 1 point, had drawn 1-1 with the UAE in their first game. Oman will face the UAE in the final round, while Qatar plays Kuwait.

Oman: Four Arrested For Smuggling Drugs

Four expats have been arrested by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) for smuggling more than 90 kilograms of crystal meth, heroin, marijuana and 1,700 psychotropic tablets. ROP said in a statement :”The General Department for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances arrested three people of Asian nationalities for smuggling more than 90 kilograms of crystal meth, heroin, marijuana and 1,700 psychotropic tablets. The legal procedures are being completed against them.”

Bahrain Beats Oman in Opener of Gulf Futsal Championship for the Deaf

Bahrain’s national team secured a 3-2 victory over Oman in the opening match of the Gulf Friendship Futsal Championship for the Deaf, hosted by the Bahrain Deaf Sports Federation. The tournament features teams from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and Qatar. The first half ended goalless with strong defensive tactics, but in the second half, Sayed Sajjad Isa Al Wadaei scored three consecutive goals. Oman narrowed the gap with a goal by Marwan Salmani. Oman Introduces Conditional Transfer Rules For Expat Workers In Private Sector

Oman has announced new regulations governing the conditional transfer of expatriate workers in private sector companies, according to Royal Decree 53/2023. The decision aims to uphold labour laws and support Omanisation initiatives while offering flexibility to employers and employees under specific conditions. The new rules allow transfers of expatriate workers, provided the following conditions are met. KEY CONDITIONS FOR EXPATRIATE WORKER TRANSFERS EXCLUDED PROFESSIONS: The worker’s profession must not fall under those already Omanized.ALIGNMENT WITH CURRENT ROLE: The transfer must match the worker’s current job category and nature of work.WORKER CONSENT: The worker must agree to the transfer.MINIMUM EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: The worker must have been employed for at least six months at the transferring establishment.VALID WORK PERMIT: The worker’s permit must have at least six months remaining before expiry.COMPLIANCE BY BOTH ESTABLISHMENTS: Both the transferring and receiving establishments must have no outstanding financial obligations with the Ministry or any service suspensions.
