Fisherman rescues young men after boat sinks off Daymaniyat Islands

Two young men who went missing after their vessel sank during a fishing trip were found safe and unharmed in the Daymaniyat Islands on Wednesday evening. Search and rescue operations were launched early in the morning, bringing together Royal Oman Police Coast Guard vessels, police aircraft, and local fishing boats in a coordinated effort to trace the missing pair. The two men were eventually spotted and picked up by a local fisherman in the Daymaniyat Islands, following hours of intensive joint search efforts between the relevant authorities and the local maritime community. Both were confirmed to be in good health.

Salam Air launches first direct flight between Muscat and Sylhet

SalamAir has launched its first direct flight between Muscat and Sylhet, Bangladesh, becoming the first foreign airline to operate scheduled services to the city. Sylhet now serves as SalamAir’s third destination in Bangladesh, expanding the airline’s presence across the Indian Subcontinent. The inaugural flight departed Muscat International Airport on September 1 with a load factor of approximately 70%, reflecting strong initial demand. Before departure, SalamAir CEO Adrian Hamilton-Manns and representatives met with Mr. Mahmudur Rahman, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Oman. Upon arrival at Osmani International Airport, an official ceremony welcomed the flight. The new route provides affordable, convenient direct connections for the large expatriate community, eliminating the need for connecting journeys. This expansion aligns with Oman Vision 2040 to boost international connectivity and support aviation growth. Tickets are available via the airline’s website, app, call centre, and travel agencies.

Oman unveils five investment opportunities worth OMR1.95 billion in Dhofar

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has announced five major investment opportunities in Dhofar Governorate through its “Invest in Oman” digital platform, with a combined investment value of approximately OMR1.95 billion. The projects span urban and real estate development, ecotourism and marine tourism, and are being developed in cooperation with government entities including Dhofar Municipality, the Environment Authority, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. Future Salalah City: The largest project, valued at about OMR1.9 billion, covering up to 10 sqkm. It envisages an integrated urban development featuring residential, commercial, healthcare, education, hospitality and recreational facilities. Sahool Al-Rathath: An integrated urban development in the Atin area of Salalah covering about 470,000 sq m, with an estimated investment of OMR40 million, including OMR15 million in government investment. The project will feature hospitality, retail, entertainment, business facilities and public spaces. Botanical Memory Garden: Located in Razat Plain and covering approximately 1.5 million sqm, the OMR4 million project will combine conservation of rare and endangered Omani plants with scientific research, education and ecotourism. CPA seizes 1,236 non-compliant school products in Muscat

The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has seized 1,236 non-compliant school products and supplies in Muscat Governorate for displaying images and symbols deemed non-compliant with applicable regulations, including skull imagery. The seized items included 463 school bags, 166 notebooks, 158 stickers, 130 rulers and 109 pencils, in addition to various other school supplies. The CPA said the seizure was carried out as part of its ongoing inspection campaigns to monitor products available in the local market and enhance consumer safety. The authority confirmed that the prescribed legal procedures were taken and the seized products were placed in custody in accordance with applicable regulations.

220 packs of Raqaq bread seized over expiry-date manipulation

More than 220 packs of Omani Raqaq bread prepared for distribution have been seized in Al Khabourah after authorities detected the manipulation of expiry dates on the products. The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Batinah Governorate, represented by the Consumer Protection Office in Al Suwaiq, said the seizure was made as part of ongoing inspection efforts to protect consumers and ensure the safety of food products in the market. The case came to light following a complaint from a consumer who reported suspected manipulation of expiry dates by an individual inside a vehicle parked in front of a commercial centre in Al Khabourah. Judicial officers immediately went to the location to verify the report and confirmed the violation during an inspection. The inspection found that the expiry dates on the Raqaq bread had been manipulated, a practice that could mislead consumers about the validity and safety of the products. The individual was found in possession of more than 220 packs of Raqaq bread prepared for distribution. Seven arrested for stealing over 130 livestock in North Batinah
