In an international milestone that affirms the wise vision and directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Bahrain’s e-passport has won ten gold and silver London Design Awards. The electronic passport was part of the support provided by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for implementing Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) initiatives launched by the cabinet as part of the Economic Recovery Plan. The e-passport was launched by the Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa in March 2023. The e-passport won three gold awards and seven silver awards at The London Design Award, which is an international competition that recognises designs that are truly exceptional in the visualisation of creative influence. A well-informed source from Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has revealed that the deportation administration set a new record last year by deporting an unprecedented number of expatriates for violating local laws. According to statistics covering the period from January 1 to December 31, a total of 42,892 expatriates were deported, comprising 25,191 men and 17,701 women. Out of these deportations, 42,265 were categorised as administrative deportations, which included 24,609 men and 17,656 women. Additionally, there were 627 judicial deportations, consisting of 582 men and 45 women. The significant rise in the number of deportations has been attributed to the proactive security measures and campaigns carried out by the security services. These efforts were guided by the directives and oversight of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Talal Al Khaled. The UAE will send the first Emirati and Arab astronaut to the lunar orbit, as part of a new space project announced on Sunday. A Kuwaiti court has sentenced a citizen to seven years in prison on charges of causing a grievous bodily harm to an expatriate, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported. The victim has suffered quadriplegia, a condition where all four limbs experience paralysis, as a result of an attack from the defendant over the former’s laxity in washing his car, Al Anba said. The defendant was charged with causing a permanent disability to the expatriate whose nationality or age was not given. A criminal court earlier sentenced the defendant to 10 years in prison. He later appealed against the verdict and pleaded innocent at the appeals court, alleging that the claimant had fallen of his own and had a previous injury. Rejecting the defendant’s claims, the appeals court said in an explanation for its verdict that the evidence furnished against the defendant from eyewitnesses, the claimant and a forensic medical report is “solid and sound”. The Saudi higher authorities have approved the adoption of a messaging service initiative on the Tawakkalna application as an official channel for government and private agencies to communicate with individuals. Tawakkalna application, affiliated with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAAI), is one of the government-automated systems and electronic means that government agencies may use to communicate with individuals and receive messages and notifications therein. SDAAI is the competent authority in the Kingdom concerned with data and AI including big data. The new directive stipulates that a service-level agreement must be concluded between the government entity wishing to benefit from the service and SDAAI to ensure the quality of the service provided and meet the requirements for its provision. The decision stressed that the government entity should not have any financial obligation in exchange for benefiting from this service, that it should comply with the regulatory texts related to the protection of individuals’ personal data, and enable individuals to have the ability to delete messages and notifications sent through this service after reading them. The Sand and Dust Storm Warning Regional Center announced that 2023 was the year with the least recorded dust cases over the past 20 years. This achievement was made while compared to the period between 2003 and 2022, thanks to the relentless efforts of Saudi Arabia to combat dust and sandstorms and bring down their effects. During the year 2023, the Riyadh city recorded 12 ‘dust condition’ days, with a decrease of 71 percent, while Turaif governorate in the Northern Border Region recorded 10 dust condition days in the same period, with a decrease of 78 percent. The northern Al-Jouf region recorded 14 dust condition days, registering a decrease of 59 percent, the center said in a statement. The efforts being made by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the Saudi Green Initiative, through their regional programs, have contributed significantly to combating dust and sand storms and reducing their effects for a sustainable environment, in a way realizing the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Riyadh’s traffic authorities have apprehended a vehicle driver responsible for hitting two individuals following a road accident, resulting in a tragic hit-and-run case. The General Directorate of Traffic clarified that the incident led to the death of one person and injured the other. In an another incident, the Directorate arrested a citizen for reckless driving. The individual deliberately crashed into multiple vehicles and attempted to run over people before fleeing the scene. It has confirmed that the suspects have been detained and referred to the competent authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures.
