Qatar is set to host a series of diverse events during the month of February. From food festivals and concerts to sports events and comedy shows, an array of globally recognised events will present what the country has to offer. Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) The exhibition offers the finest collections of jewellery and watches at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. The exhibition is running until February 11. Food Festival The Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF) promises an 11-day culinary experience at Expo Family Zone in Al Bidda Park. Comedy shows Canadian comedian, Russell Peters, will be performing at the Qatar National Convention Centre on February 17. Web Summit Qatar is the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to host the world’s largest technology conference, the Web Summit, which will be on for four days from February 26 to 29 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. The National Football Team defeated its Jordanian counterpart with a score of 1-0 in the match that was held at Khalifa International Stadium, in the third round of the group match of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, hosted by Qatar. The winning goal was scored by Abdullah Yousif in the 34th minute of the match. The win made the national team lead the group with six points, followed by the South Korean team with five points, and the Jordanian team in third place with four points. The national team has now qualified for round 16 of the tournament where they will play against the Japanese team, which ranked runner-up in Group Four with six points. The South Korean team also qualified as runner-up, and the Jordanian team was among the best three in the tournament.

The most punctual airlines in the Middle East have been revealed by global aviation analytics experts Cirium. Cirium conducted research into flight arrival times to create the 2023 On-Time Performance Review. Now in its 15th year, the Cirium On-Time Performance program meticulously monitors global airline operational performance using extensive and unbiased data, derived from more than 600 real-time information sources. Middle East and Africa’s most punctual airlines Oman Air was named the most punctual airline in the Middle East and Africa for 2023. It scored 92.5 per cent On-Time Performance (OTP), the highest among all carriers across all categories. An on-time flight is defined as a flight that arrives within 15 minutes of the scheduled gate arrival. It’s the second consecutive time the Muscat-based airline has taken the top spot, having scored 91.3 per cent during 2022. In aviation, on-time performance represents a pivotal cornerstone shaping the passenger experience. Flights that are on time mean smoother, less stressful journeys, making it a key differentiator for guest satisfaction. The 2023 International Horticultural Expo in Doha hosted a special “Saudi Day” on Friday, which included performances and activities that embodied the folklore, heritage, history and achievements of the Kingdom. Guests at the celebration, which took place at the event’s Expo House, included the Saudi ambassador to Qatar, Prince Mansour bin Khalid; the Qatari minister of municipality, Abdulla Al-Subaie, and ambassadors and other representatives of countries taking part in the expo. US Senator Bob Menendez has been accused in a new federal indictment of accepting bribes from Qatar, the second foreign country he is alleged to have improperly aided. The latest allegations accuse him of a corruption scheme from 2021-23. A lawyer for the New Jersey senator said the justice department’s claims were “baseless” and “bizarre conjectures.” Mr. Menendez, a Democrat, pleaded not guilty in October to charges alleging he acted as an illegal agent of Egypt. He has faced growing calls to resign, including from his own party, but has so far refused to step aside. The indictment unveiled on Tuesday alleges that Mr. Menendez accepted gifts, including tickets to see car races, in exchange for comments praising the Qatari government. The document does not contain any new charges but includes new details of his and the alleged crimes of his wife, Nadine Menendez. Mrs. Menendez, who is also charged in the same alleged bribery and extortion scheme, has also pleaded not guilty. Three New Jersey businessman named in the case have denied charges as well.
