Minister of Transport and Logistics Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser said that Saudi Arabia has a strong infrastructure to support the mining industry, and the road network is the most connected in the world. “Last year alone, we transported more than 25 million tons of goods on our railway system, most of which were minerals,” he said while addressing the fourth edition of the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh on Wednesday. Al-Jasser said that that Saudi Arabia has invested in roads for many years, and that the Kingdom’s ports are modern and well-equipped with the latest technologies. “The Kingdom has a network of 5,500 railway lines, which were built largely to support the logistics industry and the mining industry in particular,” he said. The requirements set by the Saudi Ministry of Municipalities and Housing stipulate that all tobacco products and their derivatives comply with the standards approved by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority and obligate their stores not to possess or display goods of unknown origin or containing misleading information. Other stipulations include selling cigarettes in a sealed package, banning sale by the piece, and prohibiting cuts in the prices of tobacco or any of its derivatives, or offering it as part of promotional offers for free as gifts, prizes or in the form of samples. Over 250 Portuguese companies, which aspire to make investments in Saudi Arabia, participated in a specialized training program to equip them for market entry. Saudi financial and legal experts made presentations during the program that included two intensive workshops, organized by the Saudi-Portuguese Business Council, at the Federation of Saudi Chambers, in Lisbon, capital of Portugal. Qatari Nasser al-Attiyah hit the gas on Tuesday to win stage 9 of the Dakar Rally as Saudi Yazeed al-Rajhi took the lead in the drivers’ standings. South African Henk Lategan was dethroned having dominated the standings since stage 2 and is now 7min 09sec behind the Saudi driver with three days to go. “It was a messy, messy, messy day for us but it’s not the end of the world, we’re still in it,” said Lategan. The National Center for Wildlife (NCW), in cooperation with NEOM, has released on Tuesday 134 endangered species into NEOM Nature Reserve as part of programs for breeding and rewilding native species in their natural habitats. NEOM Nature Reserve received 100 Arabian oryxes, 20 Arabian gazelles, eight Nubian ibexes, and six Idmi gazelles to enhance previous releases, enrich biodiversity, and restore ecological systems within the Kingdom’s natural environments. National Center for Wildlife CEO Dr. Mohammed Ali Qurban said that this release is part of a series of releases conducted by NCW in various nature reserves. The Heritage Commission has announced the addition of 3,202 new sites to the National Urban Heritage Register, bringing the total number of documented sites to 28,202. This significant milestone underscores the richness and diversity of Saudi Arabia’s heritage and is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to document and safeguard the Kingdom’s historical and cultural treasures. Among the newly registered sites, 16 are located in Riyadh, 8 in Makkah, 1 in Qassim, 2 in the Eastern Region, 3,170 in Aseer, 2 in Hail, 1 in Najran, and 2 in Al-Baha. The registrations were carried out in accordance with the Antiquities, Museums, and Urban Heritage Law, following a decision by the Heritage Commission’s Board of Directors. The decision authorizes the Commission’s CEO to document and register heritage and archaeological sites to preserve their historical and cultural significance. The Heritage Commission emphasized the importance of public participation in protecting the nation’s heritage. Citizens and residents are encouraged to report unregistered heritage sites through the Commission’s Balagh platform, official social media channels, or regional branches.
