Al-Ahli continued their winning streak with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Al-Shabab in the 14th round of the Saudi Pro League, hosted at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium. English forward Ivan Toney struck within seconds of kick-off, setting the tone for an electrifying encounter. Spanish midfielder Gabri Veiga doubled Al-Ahli’s lead, making it easier for the home side to claim all three points. The victory lifted Al-Ahli to 26 points, while Al-Shabab, struggling to find form, remains on 23 points, extending their winless run in the league. Al-Shabab, buoyed by their recent triumph over Al-Fayha to reach the King’s Cup semi-finals, looked defensively fragile in this matchup. The team, under Turkish manager Fatih Terim, missed the services of Italian midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura, who was granted leave to attend to emergency family matters. Saad Balebeid added a third goal for Al-Ahli early in the second half, making a comeback nearly impossible for the visitors. Al-Shabab’s Musab Al-Juwayr managed to score a consolation goal in the 72nd minute and added another late in the game. However, their efforts fell short as the referee’s final whistle secured Al-Ahli’s triumph, denying Al-Shabab a dramatic comeback. With this win, Al-Ahli keeps their momentum in the league, […]

Scientists at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST, Saudi Arabia), in collaboration with the Queensland Government (Australia), have discovered 34 previously unknown seagrass meadows in the Red Sea by tracking the foraging behavior of green turtles. In a new study released in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B journal, the experiment demonstrates the benefits of observing turtles to survey marine ecosystems that are crucial for carbon capture and economic livelihood and provides new information for sustainability policies in the Red Sea. Seagrass, mangroves and salt marshes are the bodies most responsible for blue carbon – carbon absorbed by coastal vegetation – and are more effective than carbon capture than rain forests. Adding their economic value, which is estimated to be at least tens of billions of dollars, international cooperation is ongoing for their sustainability. Relevant policies have heavily depended on satellite observations to survey their locations and size, which are useful for shallow coastal bodies but not nearly as reliable for seagrass. However, models estimate that only 10 percent of seagrass area has been identified. The new study shows that for a more accurate assessment of seagrass, sophisticated space technology benefits when complemented by lazy green laborers […]

The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) foiled two attempts to smuggle significant quantities of methamphetamine, commonly known as “shabu,” through the Al-Batha and Empty Quarter border crossings. In the first case, customs officers at the Al-Batha border crossing inspected a truck and discovered 1.944 kilograms of shabu concealed within the truck’s side compartments. Advanced security technology played a crucial role in detecting the illegal substances. In the second incident, ZATCA officials at the Empty Quarter crossing intercepted a vehicle carrying 4.140 kilograms of shabu. The contraband was ingeniously hidden inside the hollowed sections of the vehicle’s battery compartment. Following the confiscation, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to arrest two individuals suspected of being the intended recipients of the drugs in Saudi Arabia. ZATCA reiterated its unwavering commitment to enforcing strict customs controls on the Kingdom’s imports and exports. The authority emphasized its determination to safeguard the community and protect the economy from illicit substances in collaboration with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control. The authority also urged the public to support its anti-smuggling efforts by reporting suspected activities through its dedicated hotlines.
