Dubai Police Arrest ‘Witchcraft Beggar’

The Dubai Police apprehended an Asian beggar with the possession of witchcraft talismans that she believed would help her influence individuals to give her money. The woman’s arrest took place as part of the “Combat Begging” anti-begging campaign, which the Dubai Police launched in collaboration with strategic partners. The primary objective of this campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the nation’s civilised image by combating and preventing the crime of begging. Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, Director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department in the General Department of Criminal Investigation, disclosed that the beggar was apprehended in a residential area with “papers, tools, witchcraft talismans, and a magic veil” in her possession. The beggar believed that these items would aid her in influencing individuals to give her money. Brig. UAE Announces Mandatory Health Insurance for Private Sector Employees From 2025

Private sector employees and domestic workers will be covered under a mandatory health insurance scheme from next year, it was announced Monday. Employers will be required to pay for the health coverage of their registered workers while issuing or renewing their residency permits. The decision will be enforced starting January 1, 2025. This came as the UAE Cabinet approved the scheme for private sector employees and domestic workers who do not have an existing cover. Employers of domestic workers would need to foot the cost of their coverage. Currently, Abu Dhabi and Dubai have laws that make it compulsory for employers to get health insurance for their employees. In the UAE Capital, the mandatory scheme covers employees and their families. The new UAE-wide scheme will ensure the country’s sizeable private sector workforce can access quality healthcare. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) will roll out relevant awareness campaigns and programmes to implement the scheme. A three-bedroom beachfront penthouse on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi has sold for Dh137 million, setting a new record for the most expensive apartment sale in the emirate. UAE Investors Gain $204m From Crypto Investments In 2023

UAE investors gained more than $200m last year as the global cryptocurrency market showed signs of recovery following a $127bn slump in 2022. 2023 proved to be a year of strong recovery for global crypto markets with asset prices and market sentiment rebounding positively after the turmoil of the previous year. Chainalysis has estimated that the global crypto investor community achieved total gains of $37.6bn in 2023. UAE crypto investment While this total is much smaller than the $159.7bn in gains made during the 2021 bull market, it represents a significant recovery from 2022, which saw estimated losses of $127.1bn. Investors in the UAE were no exception to the positive trend, realising capital gains totalling $204m from their crypto investments. With the crypto community in Saudi Arabia cashing out gains of $351m, the UAE placed second in the GCC in terms of absolute gains realised by crypto investors. None of the other GCC countries placed among Chainalysis’ list of top 50 countries globally. Dubai Launches New Logo; Govt Entities to Implement Within 6 Months

Dubai’s Crown Prince launched a new logo for Government of Dubai on Sunday during the first meeting of the executive council following its recent reconstitution. He directed the immediate implementation of the new logo across Dubai’s government entities. In addition to adopting the new logo, entities will retain their individual logos to reflect their distinctiveness. The government entities will be granted a six-month transition period to implement the new logo. The leader also allocated Dh40 billion for the ‘Dubai Portfolio for Public-Private Partnership’ for 2024-2026. Dubai Expands Traffic Incident Management Project to 17 Major Roads

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Dubai Police General HQ, has announced the expansion of the Traffic Incident Management Unit project. This initiative will integrate four additional main road corridors by the end of 2024, extending coverage from 13 to 17 traffic corridors and streets, totaling 951 km in both directions, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement on Sunday.
