Pakistani Businesses Opt for Dubai Amid Uncertainty

During the past 20 months, Pakistani businessmen and rich individuals have not only been investing heavily in Dubai’s real estate but also establishing export-import trad­ing houses there, said market sources. “This is not a surprise that the Pakistanis have been investing in the real estate of Dubai but important is the establishment of trade and business houses by Pakistanis,” said Anwar Khawaja, a Karachi-based investor having businesses in Dubai also. “Many big business tycoons in Pakistan have partially or fully shifted their business to Dubai depriving the country of income and jobs,” he said. However, he said many have justification. The political and economic uncertainties along with the deteriorating law and order situation frightened the business community who regularly pay ‘extortion money’ to one or another group in Karachi. He said top business families are permanently living in Dubai, purchased houses and established trade with foreign countries. Dubai workers have been told to work from home wherever possible on Monday, February 12 amid concerns over unstable weather and rain. Employees of all government entities in the city will switch to remote working practices, while schools have been told to consider remote learning on Monday. Instructions for remote working for government employees were issued by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. Three UAE Soldiers and One Bahraini Officer Killed in Terrorist Attack in Somalia

Three members of the UAE Armed Forces and one Bahraini officer were killed in a terrorist attack in Somalia, UAE’s defence ministry confirmed in a statement on Sunday. The Ministry of Defence said that two others sustained injuries in the attack. The statement added that the attack occurred while the soldiers were “performing their work duties in training and qualifying the Somali Armed Forces, which falls within the bilateral agreement between the UAE and the Republic of Somalia in the Framework of military cooperation between the two countries.” The Ministry of Defence extended its condolences to the soldiers’ families and wished for a speedy recovery for all those injured in the attack. Furthermore, the ministry emphasised that the UAE remains committed to collaborating closely with the Somali government to investigate this terrorist act.

The name change was first announced last year, with the new name becoming official from Friday, February 9. UAE Floating Hospital Sets Sail to Treat Gaza Patients

A 100-bed floating hospital has set sail from the UAE to provide crucial medical support to Palestinian patients affected by the Israel-Gaza war. The repurposed vessel – which has 100 medical and administrative staff on board – will be docked off the coast of the Egyptian city of Al Arish to support relief efforts for Gaza. The hospital has operating rooms, intensive care facilities, a laboratory, a pharmacy and medical warehouses. The vast ship, which sailed from Khalifa Port, also boasts an evacuation plane and boat and fully equipped ambulances to transport patients. It has been established in partnership with Abu Dhabi Department of Health and the Abu Dhabi Ports Group.
