Gulfood 2024: Global Food Industry Experts to Attend Annual Dubai F&B Event

The Gulfood trade show, the largest annual food and beverage sourcing event worldwide, will return to Dubai from 19-23 February 2024. Organised by Dubai World Trade Centre, Gulfood continues to be the premier platform for the global food and beverage community. Over 5,500 exhibitors and visitors from 190 countries are expected to attend Gulfood 2024 where the future of the food industry will be in focus, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement. Industry leaders will discuss how to transform global food systems to sustainably feed a growing global population amid challenges like climate change. UAE: Health Centre Fined Dh1 Million; Doctors Being Investigated for Fraud

A health centre in Abu Dhabi has been fined Dh1 million by the Department of Health in the emirate (DoH). Several doctors at the centre have been referred for investigation on suspicion of fraud. The centre is prohibited from offering dental services across all branches due to suspected fraudulent activities aimed at misappropriating public funds, effectively barring them from offering these services in the future. The health department unveiled a series of decisive measures and actions taken against several healthcare facilities found in violation of healthcare laws, regulations, and policies in the emirate. In addition to this, DoH closed down eight healthcare facilities following extensive inspections including three (an occupational medicine centre, a laboratory, and a medical centre) which violated law related to the prevention of infectious diseases. Four home care facilities were also closed down due to their failure to comply with the Department’s standards and regulations governing home care services. The authority also closed down a dental clinic after substantiation of several violations including the employment of unlicensed healthcare professionals, as well as not adhering to the sterilisation protocols. Dubai Airport Luggage Scam: Fake Social Media Pages Claim to Sell Lost Bags

“Forgotten treasures are looking for their new home!”, reads one of the several posts by the fake Dubai International Airport account. “Choose from a variety of items at attractive prices without any percentage discounts.” Social media is rife with such posts, involving a scam claiming to sell lost luggage for prices as low as Dh8. The scheme allegedly involves clearance of the airport warehouse, where the “lost luggage” has remained unclaimed for over six months. The real Dubai International Airport (DXB) account posted an advisory to passengers cautioning them of the ‘fake profiles.’ It said, “We’ve spotted fake profiles claiming to sell lost luggage on Facebook and Instagram, and we want you to know that it’s not us!” Taking the humorous route, DXB wrote: “We’re here for takeoffs, not rip-offs. So, if you see any suspicious bargains, stay sharp and don’t click on them.” One fake Facebook account, remains active, with the latest link posted on January 16. Abu Dhabi Launches ‘Family-Work Balance’ Service

In a move to bolster family stability and gender equality, the Family Development Foundation (FDF) in Abu Dhabi has unveiled the ‘Family-Work Balance’ service. This initiative aligns with FDF’s dedication to “fortifying the social fabric” of the country by empowering Emirati families, particularly women, to balance their professional and personal lives. The newly launched service is designed to support members of the community in achieving an optimal balance between work commitments and family life. It specifically focuses on empowering women to independently manage a healthy lifestyle, enhance their skills, and harmoniously integrate their career and family responsibilities. UAE: More Than 60,000 Register To Meet Indian PM Modi in Abu Dhabi

More than 60,000 people have registered to attend ‘Ahlan Modi’, a community event that will be graced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Abu Dhabi on February 13. UAE Announces $5 Million Aid For Reconstruction Of Gaza

The UAE on Saturday announced $5 million in aid for the reconstruction of Gaza. The aid has been allocated to support the efforts of Sigrid Kaag, the United Nations Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza. Kaag, who is on a visit to the country, met with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and they reviewed the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza as a result of the war. Low-cost carrier Fly Jinnah has announced new UAE to Pakistan flights. Fly Jinnah, Pakistan’s low-cost carrier, will enter the international market with the launch of its first international flight between Islamabad and Sharjah. The inaugural flight is scheduled to take off on February 17, 2024 marking a significant milestone in the airline’s growth journey. UAE: 24 Arab Teams Compete In SWAT Challenge 2024

The Organising Committee of the UAE SWAT Challenge has said that 87 teams from 48 countries will be participating in the event, up from 55 last year, including five female and two mixed teams. The fifth edition of the competition will commence this coming Saturday at the Training City in Al Ruwayyah, Dubai, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported. Arab representation in the competition is significant, with 11 teams from the UAE, 4 from the Kingdom of Bahrain, and 2 each from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Iraq, along with a single team from the Kingdom of Morocco. All participating Arab teams have affirmed their preparedness for the challenge, showcasing early readiness and a high level of physical and tactical readiness. The challenge encompasses five competitions: Tactical, Obstacle Course, Officer Rescue, Tower Challenge, and Assault. The prize money has been increased to $260,000.
