Dubai Municipality has issued a set of guidelines to ensure the safety of food delivery orders. Taking to social media to raise greater awareness about food safety, the civic authority yesterday urged the public to keep a few basic principles in mind when ordering food through food delivery apps. To begin with, it said, “Order food from nearby restaurants so that it is delivered within half an hour to enjoy a fresh and safe meal.” When receiving the order, make sure the hot food is deparated from cold food, at appropriate temperatures. Dubai Municipality has laid out very strict guidelines to regulate the transportation of hot foods and cold foods. As a general rule, the insulation boxes used for transportation of hot foods should be capable of keeping the food hot above 60 degrees Celsius during the entire duration of loading, transportation and storage until delivery. Because your safety is our priority, here are some guidelines to follow to ensure safety of food delivery orders. #DubaiMunicipality #FoodSafety #YourHealthOurPriority pic.twitter.com/QtglMN8wrM — بلدية دبي | Dubai Municipality (@DMunicipality) March 23, 2024 Thirdly, cooked or refrigerated food should not be left at room temperature for more than two hours after receiving it. Receiving blood transfusions from COVID-19-vaccinated individuals could pose a medical risk to unvaccinated recipients since numerous adverse events are being reported among vaccinated people worldwide, according to a recent study from Japan. The preprint review, published on March 15, examined whether receiving blood from COVID-19-vaccinated individuals is safe or poses a health risk. Many nations have reported that mRNA vaccine usage has resulted in “post-vaccination thrombosis and subsequent cardiovascular damage, as well as a wide variety of diseases involving all organs and systems, including the nervous system,” it said. Repeated vaccinations can make people more vulnerable to COVID-19, it said. If the blood contains spike proteins, it becomes necessary to remove these proteins prior to administration, and there is no such technology currently available, the authors wrote. Contrary to earlier expectations, genes and proteins from genetic vaccines have been found to persist in the blood of vaccine recipients for “prolonged periods of time.” In addition, “a variety of adverse events resulting from genetic vaccines are now being reported worldwide.” This includes a wide range of diseases related to the blood and blood vessels. Some studies have reported that the spike protein in the mRNA vaccines is neurotoxic and capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, […]

A recent study published in Psychiatry Research provides evidence in favour of strength training as a potential complementary strategy to combat depression. This research, a meta-analysis of 38 previous studies, demonstrates that strength training can moderately reduce symptoms of depression. The analysis also highlights how the duration of the intervention, weekly frequency, and specifics such as the number of sets and repetitions can influence this antidepressant effect. Depression, a condition that affected roughly 280 million people globally in 2019, is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Despite the widespread use of medications like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and psychotherapy, a significant portion of those affected don’t fully recover, highlighting a critical need for complementary treatment strategies. Among these, exercise, including strength training, has shown promise in reducing depressive symptoms. However, previous research had not fully explored how different aspects of strength training contribute to its antidepressant effects. This gap in knowledge led researchers to conduct a detailed analysis, aiming to refine exercise prescriptions for individuals with depression. Senior author Lucas Melo Neves explained that his PhD research had focused on the intersection of exercise and brain health. In 2020, he embarked on a postdoctoral journey at the University of São Paulo’s […]

A major study published in scientific journal The Lancet has found that the global population will start to fall within decades due to vastly reduced fertility rates and may never recover. The study, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, found that by the year 2050, 155 of 204 countries are on course to have birth rates lower than required to sustain the population level. It notes that as of 2021, the “total fertility rate” worldwide was 2.23, hovering only just above the 2.1 children per woman needed to maintain population growth. That figure has fallen from 4.84 in 1950, with researchers predicting it will decrease to 1.83 in 2050 and go as low as 1.59 by 2100. Dramatic declines in global fertility rates set to transform global population patterns by 2100, new GBD Capstone study suggests. Explore the data ➡️ https://t.co/Mvc1PyR4F4 pic.twitter.com/xdpSjVLrQJ — The Lancet (@TheLancet) March 20, 2024 The study notes that by that time only 26 countries will have birth rates that outpace the number of people dying, with “most of the world transitioning into natural population decline”. A fall in population would mark the first time in seven centuries such an occurrence has taken place. […]

Kate, the Princess of Wales, said on Friday she has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. The video announcement came after weeks of speculation spread on social media about her whereabouts and health since she was hospitalised in January for unspecified abdominal surgery. Kate, 42, hadn’t been seen publicly since Christmas until video surfaced this week of her with her husband, Prince William, heir to the throne, walking from a farm shop near their Windsor home. Watch the video below: A message from Catherine, The Princess of Wales pic.twitter.com/5LQT1qGarK — The Prince and Princess of Wales (@KensingtonRoyal) March 22, 2024 Kensington Palace had given little detail about Kate’s condition beyond saying it wasn’t cancer-related, the surgery was successful and recuperation would keep the princess away from public duties until April. The news is another shock for the royal family since the announcement last month that King Charles III was being treated for an unspecified type of cancer that was caught while undergoing a procedure for a benign enlarged prostate. Charles, 75, has withdrawn from public duties while he has cancer treatment, though he’s appeared frequently in photos carrying on meetings with government officials and dignitaries and was even seen going to church. Kate, on the other […]

Gender dysphoria (GD), previously gender identity disorder, is a mental illness and not a hormonal or organic disorder, according to a competent Saudi scientific body. “Gender dysphoria is a psychological illness, and those affected by it do not have any hormonal, organic, or genetic defect, knowing that they have the complete external and internal organs of masculinity and femininity on the basis of the gender with which they were born,” the Committee for Professional and Ethical Practices in Mental Health, affiliated with the National Center for Mental Health Promotion, said in a statement issued on Wednesday. Gender dysphoria is the distress a person experiences due to a mismatch between their gender identity — their personal sense of their own gender and their sex assigned at birth. The causes of gender incongruence are unknown but a gender identity likely reflects genetic, biological, environmental, and cultural factors. The committee noted that the gender is determined by examining chromosomes, with the male having 46 XY chromosomes and the female having 46 XX chromosomes and is not determined by abstract self-desire. “Those who suffer from GD do not accept the gender identity with which they were born, and they have a strong desire to […]

In November 2023 Alex Gutentag and I reported on the Virality Project’s internal content-flagging system, as released by the US House Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. Initiated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and led by the Stanford Internet Observatory (SIO), the Virality Project sought to censor those who questioned government Covid-19 policies. The Virality Project primarily focused on so-called “anti-vaccine” “misinformation;” however, my Twitter Files investigations with Matt Taibbi revealed this included “true stories of vaccine side effects.” A further review of the content flagged by the Virality Project demonstrates how they pushed social media platforms to censor such “true stories.” This was often done incompetently and without even a cursory investigation of the original sources. In one instance, the Virality Project reporters told platforms that reports of a child injured in a vaccine trial were “false” due to the timing; citing the dates of a Moderna trial when in fact the child had been in a Pfizer trial. Trigger-happy researchers-turned-activists at the Virality Project went further, alerting their Big Tech partners (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok) of protests, jokes, and general dissent. Led by former CIA fellow Renee DiResta, the Virality Project functioned as an intermediary for government censorship. […]

Researchers are developing compounds that simulate the benefits of physical exercise, potentially offering new treatments for muscle atrophy, heart failure, and neurodegenerative diseases. The compound SLU-PP-332 and its derivatives activate key proteins involved in exercise-induced muscle growth and metabolism. This innovation could provide an alternative for those unable to engage in regular physical activity due to age, disease, or other conditions. The team’s work, supported by NIH grants, marks a significant step towards creating medications that replicate exercise’s physiological effects. Key Facts: Doctors have long prescribed exercise to improve and protect health. In the future, a pill may offer some of the same benefits as exercise. Now, researchers report on new compounds that appear capable of mimicking the physical boost of working out — at least within rodent cells. This discovery could lead to a new way to treat muscle atrophy and other medical conditions in people, including heart failure and neurodegenerative disease. The researchers will present their results today at the spring meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS). ACS Spring 2024 is a hybrid meeting being held virtually and in person March 17-21; it features nearly 12,000 presentations on a range of science topics. “We cannot replace exercise; […]

Our immune system is talented at telling the difference between the chemistry of our own body and that of an invading pathogen. When it malfunctions, our body can become host to an intense civil war. Scientists are keen to understand this in more detail, and a newly identified ‘switch’ that deactivates a sensor of foreign DNA may provide important insight. A key part of this discovery, made by a team from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, is an enzyme called cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS). This protein is tasked with identifying infiltrating viruses. It binds to any foreign DNA floating out of place in a cell’s gooey cytoplasm and triggers a reaction alerting the body to an invader. We already know that cGAS needs to be tightly regulated to keep it in check, especially once it enters a cell’s nucleus. The new study identifies a biological switch that marks the enzyme for deletion in places where no immune response is required. “Along with previously defined interactions with nucleosomes, our results provide a complete structural model of the nuclear regulation of cGAS.” Scientists have established that as cells divide to grow, the nuclear envelope dissolves, giving cGAS easy access to […]

Surviving COVID-19 may leave you at heightened risk of developing debilitating autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus for up to a year after infection, according to new research. However, the study also found that vaccinating against the virus could significantly lower your chances of developing these potentially life-altering inflammatory conditions. COVID-19 Infection Severity Plays a Big Role The study, published in Annals of Internal Medicine, analyzed national claims data from over 10 million Korean and 12 million Japanese patients aged 20 and above diagnosed with COVID-19 between January 2020 and December 2021. The dominant strains were the wild-type virus and the delta variant during this period. COVID-19 patients were compared with matched flu patients and uninfected controls. A little less than 4 percent of Korean participants had a history of COVID-19, and about 1 percent had a history of flu. Among Japanese participants, about 8 percent had been infected with COVID-19, and slightly less than 1 percent had been infected with flu. Researchers found that COVID-19 patients had a 25 percent to 30 percent increased risk of new-onset autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs) 30 days after infection compared to uninfected individuals. More severe COVID-19 was linked to a greater risk of new-onset, untreated, […]
