New College Grads Not Working Out, Most Hiring Managers Say: Survey

Inappropriate attire, excessive use of cell phones, poor quality of work, and foul language are just a few of the reasons 65 percent of U.S. hiring managers gave for firing college graduates who had recently started their first job. A Pollfish survey of 1,000 managers across America, reported by Resume.com, revealed the reasons that eight in 10 managers said newly hired college graduates did not work out during their first year on the job. Excessive use of cell phones ranked as the top pet peeve of managers, at 78 percent. Some 61 percent of managers found their new hires were entitled or easily offended, while 57 percent noted these new employees were unprepared for the workplace. Lack of a work ethic scored 54 percent, followed by poor communication skills at 48 percent and lack of technical skills at 27 percent. Other concerns managers had about the graduates included lateness, failure to turn in assignments on time, unprofessional behavior, and inappropriate dress and language. Seventy percent of companies surveyed noted that some hires had to be placed on performance improvement plans. “Colleges don’t teach students how to behave in the workplace, and there is a lack of transitional support from both universities and […]

London Is Losing Its Millionaires

London is losing its richest residents. The British capital has seen more than 30,000 millionaires vanish over the past 10 years. It has now dropped out of the top 5 cities for millionaires around the world, with New York, the Bay Area, Tokyo, Singapore, and Los Angeles all ranking higher, according to a report commissioned by Henley and Partners, a United Kingdom-based investment migration consultancy. The firm found that London had lost 11,300 dollar millionaires in just 12 months, including 18 individuals with a net worth of $100 million or more, and two billionaires. London, which now has 215,700 millionaires, is one of only two cities in the top 50 — the other being the heavily sanctioned capital of Russia, Moscow—that has fewer rich individuals than a decade ago. In total, the British capital has lost 12 percent of its wealthiest residents since 2014, while Moscow has lost 25 percent. Many millionaires fled Moscow in the wake of Western sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Though the Russian capital has lost more millionaires as a percentage over the past decade, with 10,000 leaving, in terms of sheer numbers, London has lost three times that number in the same time frame. The majority […]

Nearly 10 million Saudis have received monthly cash assistance under a state programme aimed to ease economic burdens on low-income brackets, according to official figures. The aid is provided under the Citizen’s Account Programme, introduced in 2017 to help Saudi citizens affected by the initiation of energy price adjustments that drove prices up. Saudis constitute around 20 million of the country’s total population of 35.3 million, according to recent statistics. The number of beneficiaries, who met the eligibility criteria, have reached 9.8 million, SPA quoted Abdullah Al Hajri, the head of communications for the programme, as saying. “The total amount paid by the programme to beneficiaries since its launch is 238 billion riyals,” the official added. The average support per family amounts to SR1,474. Al Hajri said the number of household heads benefiting from the programme in the latest installment of the assistance surpassed 2 million while the number of dependants exceeded 7.4 million beneficiaries. Average Life Expectancy In Saudi Arabia Rises To 78.8 Years

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health has announced a significant increase in average life expectancy in Saudi Arabia — from 74 years in 2016 to 78.8 years in 2024. The announcement was made in a report released to mark World Health Day, observed annually on April 7. This year’s theme, “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures,” underscores the importance of investing in health from early stages to ensure long-term well-being.  The ministry attributed this milestone to the ongoing success of the Health Sector Transformation Programme, a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030. The programme is focused on enhancing healthcare quality, reducing health risks, and promoting a vibrant society that enjoys better health and longer lives. Efforts include national campaigns promoting healthy lifestyles, the widespread adoption of walking culture, and the encouragement of positive daily health habits. These initiatives have yielded clear improvements in public health indicators and are helping pave the way toward the Kingdom’s goal of raising life expectancy to 80 years by 2030. In partnership with various government bodies, the ministry has introduced important nutritional and health policies — such as banning hydrogenated oils, reducing salt in foods, and mandating calorie labelling in food products and restaurants — to curb chronic illnesses and […]

Salmiya Tops Kuwait’s Most Populated Areas

Salmiya, Farwaniya, and Jleeb Al Shuyoukh have been turned out to be the most densely populated areas in Kuwait, according to newly released data by the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI). The PACI report identifies Salmiya as the most populous district in the country, home to 321,190 residents, followed closely by Farwaniya, Jleeb Al Shuyoukh, and Hawalli. Mahboula rounds out the top five with 218,153 residents. The latest figures place Kuwait’s overall population at 4.9 million as of last year, with Kuwaiti nationals accounting for only 31 percent. Equally important, the demographic breakdown shows a stark contrast between citizens and expatriates in terms of gender distribution: Kuwaiti citizens are nearly evenly split between 49 percent male and 51 percent female, while non-Kuwaitis are overwhelmingly male (66 percent). The age structure of the population is heavily skewed toward working-age adults. Individuals aged 15 to 64 represent 80 percent of Kuwait’s total population, while children under 15 make up 17 percent, and seniors aged 65 and above constitute just 3 percent. Kuwait’s labor market also reflects significant demographic trends. The total workforce reached 2.25 million across both public and private sectors. Of these, only 23 percent (517,022 workers) were employed in the public sector, while the private sector absorbed 77 percent […]
