Abu Dhabi Motorcyclist Suffers Permanent Disabilities After Swerving To Avoid Jaywalker

A motorcyclist in Abu Dhabi has been left with life-altering injuries after swerving to avoid a woman who crossed the road from a non-designated area and failed to stop, leading him to lose control of his bike, 24.ae newsportal reported.  The crash resulted in severe and permanent disabilities: partial paralysis in his left leg, impaired vision and hearing, memory loss, partial seizures, repeated loss of consciousness, and long-term psychological trauma. His condition ultimately forced him into early retirement. According to case filings, the motorcyclist submitted a claim to the Insurance Dispute Settlement and Resolution Committee seeking Dh2.1 million in compensation from the insurance company and another party, along with Dh4,000 to cover forensic medical report costs.  He argued that the accident occurred while riding his insured motorcycle, and that the woman who caused the crash could not be identified afterward. The insurer sought to limit its liability to Dh200,000, the cap for bodily injury under its policy, and the committee dismissed the motorcyclist’s claim. He appealed the decision, but the Court of Appeal also rejected his case. He then filed a petition with the Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation, arguing that the previous courts had dismissed the case because he did not submit the […]

Bahrain: Lawmakers Push To Give Drivers Longer Window For Discounted Fine Payments

Despite opposition in the upper chamber, a bill to extend the discount period for traffic fines returns to Parliament on Tuesday, with MPs citing financial pressures on citizens. The proposal seeks to amend Article 56 of the Traffic Law, giving motorists who accept a settlement 30 days to pay half the minimum fine, replacing the current seven-day window. Supporters argue the longer period would ease households’ budgets, encourage more drivers to settle fines, reduce the Traffic Court’s workload, and save motorists time and legal costs. The Shura Council rejected the bill in principle, while the government warned that extending the period could weaken deterrence, stressing that prompt settlement is essential for road safety. Under current law, drivers who settle within seven days pay half the minimum fine; payment within 30 days requires the full minimum, and settlements before the Public Prosecution cannot be less than a quarter of the maximum fine. The Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee reviewed the Shura Council’s objection on 5 May 2025. The Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee backed the council’s legal reasoning but named MPs Jameel Mulla Hassan and Hassan Ibrahim as rapporteurs. The committee recommends Parliament insist on the longer payment window […]

Ford Mulls Scrapping F-150 Lightning After Dismal Demand, Mounting Losses

Ford is reportedly set to scrap the F-150 Lightning, once hailed by top executives as the company’s “modern Model T,” amid absolutely terrible demand. Production lines for the electric pickup remain paralyzed after an aluminum shortage halted operations last month. A new Wall Street Journal report indicates that the F-150 Lightning is on the chopping block after $13 billion in EV losses since 2023. If accurate, this would make the money-losing truck America’s first major EV casualty. CEO Jim Farley previously called the F-150 Lightning “as revolutionary as the Model T,” promising a truck that would democratize electric mobility just as the original Model T democratized driving. Yet how could Farley have been so wrong about the Lightning … and did his climate-change blinders end up damaging shareholder value? It’s something the board should be taking a hard look at. Demand for the EV truck is absolutely horrendous. Adam Kraushaar, owner of Lester Glenn Auto Group in New Jersey, told WSJ that F-150 Lightning demand is “not there.” He also sells GMC, Chevy, and other brands. “We don’t order a lot of them because we don’t sell them.” WSJ noted, “No final decision has yet been made, according to people familiar with the […]

Bahrain: Speeding, Street Racing, Reckless Driving – Big Changes Are Coming!

The Ministry of Interior has announced that recent security statistics and field data indicate a sharp rise in serious traffic accidents across the Kingdom, resulting in significant human and material losses. In response, a new Royal Decree-Law has been issued to amend the Traffic Law, introducing stricter penalties for high-risk behaviors such as speeding, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. In an official memorandum submitted to the Council of Representatives, the Ministry explained that the decree introduces new punitive provisions that were not previously included in the Traffic Law. Some of these offenses were earlier punishable only under the Penal Code. Incorporating them into the Traffic Law, the Ministry noted, aims to unify the legislative framework and ensure more effective enforcement. The Ministry clarified that the phrase “unsafe driving,” as stated in Article (47 bis) of the amended law, encompasses all forms of abnormal or unsafe conduct on public roads. This includes dangerous overtaking, driving against the flow of traffic, or street racing. The broad wording, the Ministry added, allows the judiciary to interpret and apply the law in a comprehensive manner that strengthens deterrence and road safety. Regarding the use of window tints (rayban), […]

UAE: New Rules For Delivery Riders In Dubai And Sharjah

Starting November 1, 2025, Dubai and Sharjah enforce a series of new and stricter regulations governing the movement of delivery motorcycles, heavy vehicles, and buses on main and arterial roads, a response to the growing number of road accidents involving delivery riders in recent years. The measures aim to improve traffic safety and curb reckless behavior among delivery drivers, whose numbers have surged amid the rapid rise in e-commerce and food delivery activity across the UAE. Dubai Police, will prohibit delivery riders from using high-speed lanes on major roads. Riders will face fines of up to Dh700 for repeated violations, and their delivery permits may be suspended.  The restrictions will prevent delivery bikes from using the two fastest lanes on roads with five or more lanes, or the fast lane on roads with three or four lanes, while still allowing them access to smaller roads with two lanes or fewer. In preparation for the rollout, the RTA installed new signage across Dubai indicating where commercial motorcycles are banned, alongside existing restrictions for trucks and heavy vehicles.  The authority will work closely with the Dubai Police, the Department of Economy and Tourism, and delivery companies to monitor compliance through field inspections […]
