The share of newly registered passenger cars worldwide produced without provisions for assisted driving systems has become smaller and smaller in recent years. Statista’s Katharina Buchholz reports that, according to the Statista Mobility Market Insights, “regular” cars made up a minority of only 19 per cent of newly registered cars around the globe in 2020. The transition to autonomous-ready cars has been a quick one: In 2015, cars without assistance systems were still in the majority at 45 per cent of all newly registered ones. You will find more infographics at Statista There are six different automation levels for passenger cars in the classification SAE J3016 by standards developer SAE International, four of which are included in the chart. Autonomous driving ability is displayed as levels 0 to 5. In levels 1 and 2, the autonomous driving functions assist the drivers (so-called assisted mode). Automated driving provisions of level 3 are now entering regular production, while level 4 is expected by 2025. Level 3 is the lowest level of this automated mode. Vehicles whose systems meet level 3 requirements can drive independently to some degree, with the driver taking over the wheel again upon request and with advance notice. From level 4, vehicles can drive independently without […]

The SUV market has experienced tremendous growth over the past two decades. While modern SUVs have been present since the 1980s with the introduction of the Jeep Cherokee XJ, it was in the late 1990s that mainstream automakers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Porsche entered this segment. Since then, SUVs have surpassed other vehicle types to become some of the best-selling cars in the US. The popularity of SUVs stems from their ability to meet various needs. They offer ample space for most families’ requirements and possess off-road capabilities. Furthermore, as more options flood the market, they have become increasingly affordable. Traditionally, speed was not a characteristic associated with SUVs. However, advancements in automotive technology have allowed manufacturers to push boundaries and elevate performance levels in these vehicles. As a result, many incredibly fast SUV models have emerged on the market. These high-performance SUVs boast mind-boggling acceleration, precise handling, and top speeds that rival those of traditional performance cars. While we often discuss ranking the fastest cars globally today, it is equally intriguing to explore which are currently considered as some of the fastest SUVs available. 10. 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio Performance Alfa Romeo, once a popular automaker, had faced […]

Back in the early 1900s, pioneer automobile makers from Germany and America were already testing the limits of their first cars. For instance, the 1900 Tatra Rennzweier – powered by a modified 9-hp Benz engine – was built specifically for racing. Capable of reaching a top speed of 50 mph, the Rennzweier was considered a really fast car – especially compared to the horse-drawn carriages of that time. The quest to produce the fastest car in the world has been an ever-moving goalpost for car manufacturers as land speed records keep getting pushed higher and higher. The 100-mph barrier was broken between 1904 and 1905, and the 200-mph hurdle was surmounted in 1970 by a Dodge Charger Daytona racecar. The need for speed spilled out from the tracks and onto the streets, and in 1987, the Ferrari F40 became the fastest street-legal car of its time. The Ferrari F40 was the first production car to exceed 200 mph. Today’s fastest cars go by different names, like supercars, hypercars, and believe it or not – “ultracars” and “megacars.” The naming convention has been blurred, but the top speed target is the same: to beat the 304.7-mph record that Bugatti set in […]

Genesis has always steered in the direction of enabling its vehicles to transfer to EV platforms in the future. The GV70 and G80 were designed to make way for this shift from ICE Engines to EVs. The GV60 takes a different route and is available with EV exclusively; not with the ICE Engine. Can you shed some light on the crystal […]

When temperatures rise, you’ll want your AC running smoothly. No one wants to get into their car on a really hot day and turn on their air conditioning for some relief, only to wait for a refreshing, cool breeze that never comes. Or, maybe some semi-cool air manages to get through the vents a few minutes into your drive but is too warm and too weak to make much of a difference. Either way, here are three ways to get more out of your car’s air conditioner. How to get the most out of your car’s air conditioner Some strategies for dealing with inadequate AC in your car—like parking in the shade, or using a windshield cover—focus on trying to keep it as cool as possible when it’s not in use. And while they do help keep the temperatures inside the car down a bit, it’ll still likely be uncomfortably hot when you get in. Here are some other options that might work a bit better: Change the air filter When was the last time you changed your cabin air filter? If you can’t remember, or know it was a while ago, you may want to check it. Over time, the dirt, dust, pollen, […]
