Bahrain: 19, 757 expats repatriated since beginning of COVID-19 outbreak

The General Directorate for Ports Security carried out 108 missions to facilitate procedures for the evacuation of 10,218 citizens and residents from abroad, ever since the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) broke out.

The directorate also carried out 188 missions to repatriate 19, 757 residents living in the Kingdom of Bahrain to their respective countries, said Administrative Affairs Liaison Officer First Lieutenant Rashid Hamad Al-Dosary.

The directorate has also provided COVID-19 tests for a total of 91, 029 passengers who arrived into Bahrain from abroad.

The directorate has recently started implementing a plan at the Bahrain International Airport to raise the number of passengers from 1000 to 2000 daily, as part of a graduation resumption of movement.

Regarding the resumption of traffic on the King Fahd Causeway, Al-Dosary said that exceptional measures have been taken to facilitate the movement of passengers in line with the required health protocols, adding that a comprehensive study is underway to restore the movement of cruise ships at seaports.
