Several Emirates A380 Are Currently Being Dismantled and Cannibalized at Dubai World Central Airport

Several Emirates A380 are currently being dismantled or cannibalized at Al Maktoum International Airport. A recent footage shows several Emirates Airbus A380s stored at at Dubai World Central Airport. Dubai World Central Airport was supposed to be Dubai’s mega-hub by 2017 for the massive Emirates A380 fleet. Instead, it appears to have turned into a graveyard where the airline is storing the A380s. Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central, is an international airport in Jebel Ali, 37 kilometres southwest of Dubai, United Arab Emirates that opened on 27 June 2010. It is the main part of Dubai South, a planned residential, commercial and logistics complex. Al Maktoum International Airport is also hosting the biennial Dubai Airshow. After her retirement in April 2020, the Emirates A380 (reg. A6-EDA) was dismantled by Falcon Aircraft Recycling. The process took less than five months to complete. Emirates currently operates close to 90 A380s. Last year, the airline kick-started its retrofit programme, with 67 A380s earmarked for a refresh across every cabin class, in addition to the installation of new Premium Economy Class cabins.N

With a vibrant air that is rich in history that brings you to medieval ages all intertwined with a modern flourish; Germany is a must-visit country. The lively culture and variety of regional distinctions allow for the opportunity to have a unique and exciting experience in every city and town. Each beautiful in its own way, my journeys through this quaint European gem took me to Stuttgart for one night, Baden-Baden for two nights, and Essen for three nights. From the Middle East, it’s an excellent location for a holiday, offering something truly special to every type of traveller. The Overall German Experience Perhaps you’ve heard the jokes about Germans being on time and precise, and I can assure you, this is no joke. If you value timeliness and orderliness, you will feel right at home in Germany. Everything I experienced from the trains, tours, and metro services is always right on the dot with the ETA. During my trip and time with the German Tourism Board, they made strong efforts to reveal the nature-rich country, more so than the notorious German cities most people are already aware […]

Striving to Change: An Interview with Adnan Gilitwala of Dadabhai Travels

Adnan Gilitwala is the Director of Dadabhai Travels, a Bahrain-based travel agency that was established in the Kingdom back in 1981. The young entrepreneur and business leader is responsible for the company’s growth, innovation, and expansion. During one of our drives around Manama, we caught up with Adnan to learn more about his journey, experiences, and some travel insights for 2023.  What brought you into the travel and tourism sector? Dadabhai Travels is a family company that my father started over 40 years (in 1981). It was more or less certain that when I graduated from university, I was going to work with the family and grow in the industry. So, the day after my graduation, I was back in Bahrain and the office. Does working in the travel industry, give you the perks of getting to do a lot of travel? At times yeah, but not as much as people would think. it’s not like just because you work in travel, you’re travelling every week. It depends on what your job is. A lot of the work going into it is virtual now. What would you say are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned since the COVID-19 pandemic? […]

Four Seasons Hotel: A Landmark of the French Riviera

Gulf Insider’s Charlie Cooksey spends a weekend at the breathtaking Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel in Nice, France. It’s easy to claim that a hotel is synonymous with luxury, yet visiting a 5-star hotel in person and being shown a luxury accommodation is quite another. The Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat does not disappoint; from its palatial-like exterior and interior to the staff that recalls everyone by name, this hotel has earned its five stars. The Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat is about 20 minutes by car from the city center of Nice, and the hotel is rich in history. It was initially built in 1908 and continually added to until World War I. It became a temporary war hospital. In the early 1930s, it once again shifted to a glamorous hotel. After changing hands for a few years starting in the 60s, it eventually became a Four Seasons Hotel in 2015. This landmark hotel residing in the French Rivera boasts incredible views of the Mediterranean Sea and proximity to Paloma Beach and various high-end outlet shops. The glamour and sophistication of the Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat have brought various celebrities and famous icons into its rooms, from Charlie Chaplin to Winston Churchill […]

Checking into The Ritz-Carlton’s Flagship Property at New York’s Central Park

Charlie Cooksey spent a summer getaway in the iconic New York City, staying at The Ritz-Carlton Central Park. Mention The Ritz-Carlton, and images of luxe suites and Central Park are conjured into mind. These idyllic images are not far from my experience while staying at the well-known Ritz-Carlton Central Park. This 5-star luxury hotel is located in Midtown Manhattan, offering ample opportunities to discover nearby restaurants and attractions like Rockefeller Center. The Ritz-Carlton Central Park is about a 30-minute drive from LaGuardia Airport, achieved via taxi or rental car. It is located alongside Central Park, accessible by simply crossing the street. This incredible location offers the ability to roll out of bed and enjoy an early morning walk through the park. While there are 111 Ritz-Carlton company locations, this is their flagship property, and rightfully so. Upon arrival, I was greeted by an incredibly friendly staff and shown to my room by Jeremy. I was pleasantly surprised by a champagne bottle on ice waiting for me when entering my room. A few steps further into the room provided an incredible display of candies, chocolates, and sweets with edible Bahrain and British flag decorations. My photo was included, providing the perfect […]

Travel: Luxurious trip to Florida Keys, USA

Charlie Cooksey spends a weekend in the Florida Keys in the pinnacle of luxury, checking into Isla Bella Beach Resort and Oceans Edge Resort. When in Florida, a trip down to The Keys is a must. The Florida Keys are a long strip of tropical islands stretching about 120 miles off the southern tip of the peninsular US state of Florida, running through the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. This long strip of islands running through the middle of the ocean ranks high in being one of the most beautiful and spectacular places I’ve travelled to, and the approximately 4hour drive from Miami down to Key West is a commute you’ll seriously enjoy. I broke the drive from Miami to Key West into 2 legs stopping over half way in Marathon, a city in the Keys, and checked into Isla Bella – a luxury resort hotel tucked away in one of the most beautiful parts of Florida and just 2 hours from Miami. A windy driveway lined with over a thousand tall palm trees greet you as you drive into the hotel entrance area, whilst the hotel is just off the main A1A road, you feel truly separate and isolated […]
