The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) on Sunday said it has issued a decision to administratively close ‘Food Zone Catering Contracts’ outlet in Mafraq Industrial Area. On its X account, ADAFSA said the establishment has been found in violation of Law No. 2 of 2008 regarding food in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and its associated legislation. “Furthermore, its practices pose a significant risk to public health,” the Authority added. Last week, another Abu Dhabi eatery (Amir Al Sham Restaurant and Grills) was closed for failing to take effective corrective actions, despite repeated warnings to address food safety violations, including an insect infestation.

The General Command of Sharjah Police is investigating the collapse of a school roof under construction in Kalba, UAE. Emergency teams responded promptly, providing first aid to three injured individuals of Arab and Asian nationalities with minor to moderate injuries. The bodies of two deceased workers were also recovered. Brigadier Dr Ali Al Kay Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, stated that upon receiving the report earlier on Sunday, all specialized teams were dispatched to the scene, including the Sharjah Civil Defense Authority, the Kalba Comprehensive Police Station, the Crime Scene Team, the National Ambulance, and the Kalba Municipality. Brigadier Al Hamoudi indicated that the specialized teams evacuated the site completely and provided immediate first aid to the injured before transporting them and the bodies of the deceased to the hospital. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.

Etihad Airways has launched two new routes — Warsaw in Poland and Prague in Czechia—marking the first time the airline has flown directly to these countries. Starting from June 2, 2025, Etihad will launch four weekly flights to both Warsaw and Prague. This milestone expansion is part of Etihad’s ongoing efforts to diversify its European network. The Sharjah Civil Defence will use drone technology to deal with fires in high-rise buildings in the emirate, starting next year. The new technology will enter service in the first quarter of 2025 and will contribute significantly to achieving the strategic and operational goals set by the authority related to reducing firefighting time and achieving rapid response, especially in high-rise buildings, and moving from traditional firefighting methods to advanced and creative methods. The authority tested the drone with a technical team from the Civil Defence and the company Drone First Building Services, based in the UAE. Brigadier Sami Al Naqbi, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defence, said: “We tested the drone, and it passed the test successfully, reaching a height of 150 metres, equivalent to about 40 floors, in just 18 seconds,” adding that the drone demonstrated the ability at this height to spray water up to 15 metres from an internal tank with a capacity of 5,000 litres, which is refilled via a water hose connected to a ground tank. The UAE has announced a holiday for government workers to recognise the Prophet’s Birthday. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has issued a circular to all ministries and federal entities regarding the Prophet’s Birthday holiday in the federal government, for the year 1446 AH. The circular said: “Based on the UAE Cabinet resolution regarding the approved official 2024 holiday agenda for the government and private sectors in the country, it has been decided that the Prophet’s Birthday holiday will be on Sunday, 15th September, 2024.” UAE Prophet’s Birthday holidayOn this occasion, FAHR extended its best wishes to the United Arab Emirates leadership, government, and people, as well as the Arab and Islamic nations. A rare fox has been spotted on a UAE nature reserve. The elusive Blanford’s Fox is one of the latest species to be captured on camera as part of the Notice Nature initiative. Launched by Mashreq and environmental charity Emirates Nature-WWF, Notice Nature is the UAE’s unique wildlife mapping initiative, designed to evaluate the conservation status of key wildlife species and contribute to the protection and rehabilitation of the UAE’s rich biodiversity. Rare fox sighting in the UAE The project is implemented in partnership with the Fujairah Environment Authority. Notice Nature creates opportunities for various communities in the UAE to participate directly in environmental conservation as “citizen scientists” through Emirates Nature-WWF’s Leaders of Change annual programme aimed at mobilising the UAE at large. Citizen scientists work alongside specialists in gathering and analysing valuable data that informs conservation strategies by deploying scientific tools and helping install and maintain motion sensing camera at select sites in UAE’s first mountain protected area, Wadi Wurayah, which is managed by the Fujairah Environment Authority. Mashreq Metro Station will now be known as InsuranceMarket Metro Station, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Thursday. The station is on the Red Line between Mall of The Emirates and Dubai Internet City Metro Stations – strategically located on Sheikh Zayed Road. The naming of the Metro station will be valid for 10 years. RTA has changed the outdoor signs and will also be updating the smart and electronic systems of the public transport network, including the audio announcement on board the metro carriages during the transition period from September to November this year. RTA has asked commuters to note the change in the station’s name. Riders can seek any assistance or clarification from RTA teams at the stations, if needed.
