Coronavirus: Bahrain to Start Treating Patients with Blood Plasma

The Ministry of Health is set to start using blood plasma from the recovered coronavirus (COVID-19) patients to treat COVID-19 cases. This was announced in a press conference today.

The treatment, known as ‘convalescent plasma therapy’ will be implemented by the ministry in the coming days.

In this therapy, blood is drawn from a person who has recovered from the disease and the serum is separated and screened for virus-neutralising antibodies.

When attacked by a pathogen, our immune systems produce antibodies. In the convalescent plasma therapy, antibodies from recovered patients are used to treat other sick people.
