In a significant move to combat corruption and uphold accountability, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs has referred 208 people — comprising both Kuwaiti nationals and expatriate residents — to the Public Prosecution for involvement in financial and administrative violations within cooperative societies over the past year.
The group includes 96 Kuwaiti citizens and 112 expatriates, among them members of cooperative society boards and employees in various capacities.
These referrals, covering the period from May 2024 to May 2025, were made in accordance with a directive issued by Minister Dr. Amthal Al Huwailah.
According to local media reports, the minister stressed that accountability measures are enforced without bias, and that legal action applies equally to all, regardless of nationality or position.
The initiative underscores the government’s firm stance on transparency and integrity in public and semi-public institutions.
In addition, dozens of financial and administrative auditors have been referred for internal administrative investigations due to negligence or failure to carry out their supervisory responsibilities effectively.
