Dubai-based firm Viva City said construction work has started on its ambitious Sports Society, which is poised to become the largest sports mall in the world once it gets completed in the first quarter of 2020.
The Sports Society project is being developed at Mirdif Dubai by Khansaheb Civil Engineering, which is utilizing a fully integrated BIM model to manage and coordinate all elements of the design and ensure the construction works are fully coordinated.
The scale and scope of the construction work are significant and includes the pouring of almost 60,000 cubic m of structural concrete beside reinforcement with over 9,000 tons of steel over six floors (including both basements and roof) which will be formed using over 160,000 sqm of formwork.
It also includes the erection of nine structural steel trusses, each weighing around 70 tons (each truss will be erected to a maximum height of approximately 30m above the ground in one lift using a crawler crane).
Bove pointed out that the process of building the world’s largest sports mall faces many challenges, especially as the project is designed to be an architectural icon that will deliver a unique experience combining shopping, entertainment and sports activities.
Co-ordination installation and full integration of a world class arena entertainment system includes theatrical lighting to create dramatic ambience during events; huge LED screens throughout the development which will broadcast local and international entertainment and sports news besides full NHL regulation size ice rink cooled to -5 degrees centigrade at floor level during the scorching Dubai summers.
