Dubai Police arrested 166 suspects and blocked 15 websites on Thursday for involving in trafficking and sale of drugs in 2019. The General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police also recorded 15 cases of drugs being sold on social media channels last year, a statement said.
The statistics were announced during the department’s annual inspection carried out by Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police. According to the statistics, the number of people arrested in drug cases aged between 18-25 decreased by 6.8 per cent during the past year compared to 2018, while arrests among the age group 15-17 years saw a 20 per cent.
Al Marri stressed the need to step up efforts to combat drugs and protect the youth against falling prey to drugs.
He stressed Dubai Police’s keenness to promote prevention efforts in collaboration with anti-drugs institutions and urged the public to participate with campaigns to spread awareness on the risks posed by narcotics.
