Saudi Arabia Launches Campaign to Promote Local Poultry Products Consumption

Saudi Arabia launched a campaign to promote the consumption of local poultry products, a move seen as a reflection of the growing trend around the world to support domestic sectors and products.

The new campaign, titled “A Taste of Saudi Arabia”, is part of the national programme for the development of the livestock and fisheries sector.

The initiative, launched with the participation of 25 government sectors, is to raise awareness about increasing the consumption pattern of local poultry products in accordance with the goals of the kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

The Director of Institutional Communication and Partnerships at the National Program for the Development of the Livestock and Fisheries Sector, Abdul Majeed Al-Shehri, said the campaign aims to change trends in the consumption of local poultry.

The programme is aimed at enhancing domestic consumers’ perception about the importance of locally raised chicken and educating them about the nutritional value of the product, Al-Shehri said.

It is expected to raise the self-sufficiency rate of poultry in the country, besides increasing local content and production.

“This will also contribute to creating job opportunities,” he said.

Al-Shehri said the local production of poultry is consistent with “Saudi Qab” good agricultural standards and practices.

The country’s poultry production is expected to expand to 1.62 million tons with a self-sufficiency rate of up to 92 percent by 2025.

Saudi Arabia’s poultry sector has been witnessing significant developments in recent years thanks to the agriculture strategy launched by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture over the years.
