Customers who wish to shop for groceries at Union Coop in the UAE must provide proof of their Dubai Police-issued movement permit upon entry.
In a statement to shoppers, the hypermarket said: “In line with the national sterilization procedures, starting April 16th, you are requested to show “exit permit” in order to enter our branches. Your safety is our priority.”
However, supermarket chain Spinneys said it does not require proof of a permit upon entry.
Union Coop’s announcement came shortly after Dubai revealed it is limiting the issuance of one time permits for residents. Those who wish to apply for the permit can do so once every three days to buy groceries. All permits are limited to the applicants’ area of residence.
