UAE: MoHRE Reminds Private Sector About December 31 Emiratisation Deadline

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has called on private sector firms employing 50 or more workers to expedite their efforts to meet Emiratisation targets for 2023 before December 31 to avoid facing penalties.

These private sector establishments are also required to achieve a 2 percent annual growth rate in employing Emiratis for skilled jobs before the issued deadline.

The ministry said private sector firms that are still short of meeting Emiratisation requirements can leverage the Nafis platform for Emirati job seekers.

MoHRE commended private sector establishments that have achieved their targets, noting that over 18,000 establishments have succeeded in doing so.

This, in turn, has contributed to a historic and unprecedented increase in the number of citizens joining private sector jobs, ensuring their stability in these positions.

Currently, more than 84,000 Emiratis work in the private sector, with more than 54,000 of them having entered the sector over the past two years.

The ministry said its “teams inspect compliance with Emiratisation policies and decisions, identify negative practises and attempts to circumvent Emiratisation decisions and take legal action against any establishment found to be in violation of relevant regulations and decisions.”

“We are committed to providing all the necessary resources to enhance the private sector’s role as a partner in advancing Emiratisation plans and increase the contribution of Emirati talents to the UAE’s economic development,” MoHRE said in a statement.

The ministry lauded the significance of public-private partnerships, which can be seen in the growing number of Emiratis working in the private sector as well as in their job stability and career advancement.

Fake Emiratisation jobs

Meanwhile, MoHRE fined 565 companies in August for hiring 824 UAE nationals in fake Emiratisation jobs since mid-last year. Faking Emiratisation is a violation of the government’s objectives and the regulations of the Nafis programme.

The ministry also recovered more than Dhs2.32 million ($632,000) in financial support from 107 Emirati beneficiaries of the Nafis programme who accepted fake jobs in the private sector.

The benefits provided by the Nafis programme for UAE citizens, together with the facilities that are offered to companies committed to Emiratisation goals, “must align with the national objectives to enhance Emirati citizens’ role in the country’s development.”

The programme is aimed at enhancing the UAE’s human development system, establishing productive and sustainable Emirati human capital in the private sector, and empowering UAE citizens to make effective contributions to the job market.
