Earthquake strikes Iran, tremors felt in UAE

Mild tremors were recorded in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE after an earthquake hit Iran on Sunday afternoon.

Residents of Ras Al Khaimah reported feeling gentle tremors around 3 pm yesterday – a result of an earthquake that struck Qeshm Island, south of Iran.

The National Centre of Meteorology confirmed that Qeshm Island was hit by a 5 magnitude tremor at 2.54pm. It said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 42km and was slightly felt by residents in RAK.

No injuries or damage were reported, the centre said.
