Which type of school curriculum should you choose for your kids?

When deciding on a school for our children, we first look at the curriculum of the schools we are considering. The quality of education they receive will depend on the curriculum the school is following. All children are different and we want to select an education system that will best suit them and in which they can benefit from the most. Today, we are listing the most common curricula offered in schools in Bahrain. International Baccalaureate (IB) The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers a range of international education to students aged 3 to 19. It encourages critical and independent thought. This student-centered curriculum gives their students a level of independence to foster their creativity which allows them learn more effectively through experiential learning. British Curriculum The student-centered British Curriculum focuses on developing their students’ personalities as well as academic excellence. Students are nurtured to reach their full potential through interpersonal relationships, forming opinions, exploring the world, taking responsibility, and developing their body. They educate students through analytical problem-solving and critical thinking as well as encouraging independent thought. This educational system equips their students with the ability to adapt quickly in uncertain situations. American Curriculum The standard-based American Curriculum focuses on helping […]

Interview: The impact of COVID-19 on Bahrain’s education sector

The COVID-19 pandemic presented significant disruptions in different sectors of the society; the education sector worldwide is not an exception to the impact of these unprecedented times. In Bahrain, the spread of COVID-19 has required a range of extraordinary responses from authorities and education institutions. We recently interviewed Dr. Jawaher Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, the Chief Executive of the Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA) to know more about the current status of educational institutions in the Kingdom. We have learned from your recent annual report that you have shifted your frameworks and processes in rating educational institutions remotely. Did this have any implications on the accuracy of the ratings? The BQA is committed to improving education and training by evaluating educational and training institutions fairly and objectively. In response to the current challenging circumstances, the BQA has established a framework that focuses on evaluating the schools’ responses to any exceptional circumstances the country or the world is going through.  This framework has been adopted to gauge the appropriateness of the schools’ measures, procedures and practices to ensure the continuity of providing proper education to all students. It does not replace the regular review framework – it adopts a somewhat modified approach and set […]

Bahrain: AUBH achieves eligibility to apply for US accreditation

The American University of Bahrain (AUBH) has become the first University in the Kingdom to achieve eligibility to proceed with an Application for Accreditation with the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Once awarded, AUBH would become the first higher education institution to be accredited by WSCUC in Bahrain. A determination of eligibility is not a formal status with the WASC Senior College and University Commis-sion, nor does it ensure eventual accreditation. It is a preliminary finding that the institution is potentially accreditable and can proceed within five years of its Eligibility determination to be reviewed for Candidacy or Initial Accreditation status with the Commission.

Learn how AUBH diversifies its academic porfolio

Gulf Insiders talks to Dr. Susan E. Saxton, Founding President of the American University of Bahrain. What’s new at AUBH? We are so excited to welcome 2021 with new degrees, new students and new partnerships! It is an exciting time at AUBH. Not only were we able to welcome students back on our beautiful campus last fall, thanks to our dual-modality learning experience and outdoor activities and events, but we also have three new undergraduate programs and three new graduate programs in the pipeline and under approval with HEC. Today, we are of course offering our learning experience online, in line with the Council for Higher Education’s directives until March 14th, however, hope to welcome our students back on campus as soon as it’s possible to do so. Adding to our list of recent accomplishments is that we are now welcoming international students from fourteen different countries, adding to our already diverse student body. Academic Excellence – An Interview with Dr. Susan E. Saxton, American University of Bahrain

Gulf Insider talks to Dr. Susan E. Saxton, Founding President of the American University of Bahrain. How is your organization contributing to the development of the Kingdom of Bahrain? In general, the AUBH quality of American-style education mirrors that of the best universities in the United States, and we are the first of our kind in the Kingdom. Through our unique academic philosophy, students will be equipped to identify their interests and passion and focus their attention on following the path they find personally suitable. This approach runs through everything we do, and so creates a unique caliber of graduate which AUBH will become synonymous with in Bahrain. What makes your University special? Many things! True to our Americanstyle curriculum, with AUBH, students can change their mind with regards to their major. They have two years of general education courses common across all colleges, giving them the skills to be productive, to find their own resources, to self-assess. We discovered that this way we can enable students to find their real passions rather than being forced to choose a path too early – they ‘learn to learn.’ We envision a new league of graduates, empowered with the ability to think […]
