Egyptian jailed for hacking into Kuwait website

A Kuwaiti court has sentenced an Egyptian man to seven years in prison and deportation after serving the term for hacking the country’s official news agency KUNA and publishing fake news.

The Criminal Court has convicted the defendant, an employee of the agency, of publishing a false news story attributed to the Kuwaiti defence minister on the US troops’ departure from the Gulf country, Al Rai newspaper reported.

Last January, KUNA denied the news and said its website had been hacked.

The defendant, whose name or age was not disclosed, was arrested in February and charged with jeopardising state security.
