Over 40 Arabian Sand Gazelle Births Recorded At Imam Turki Bin Abdullah Royal Reserve

More than 40 Arabian sand gazelle births recorded at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve during the first quarter of 2026. This reflects the success of endangered species reintroduction programs carried out by the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority and the effectiveness of efforts to conserve biodiversity and enhance ecosystem sustainability within the reserve. The authority stated that the births were documented through continuous field monitoring conducted by specialized teams. It noted that the high rate of natural reproduction among Arabian sand gazelle reflects the quality and suitability of the reserve’s habitats, as well as the success of protection and habitat management programs and the provision of environmental conditions conducive to the species’ stability and reproduction. The authority explained that the reproduction of wildlife species in their natural habitats is among the most significant indicators of the success of breeding and reintroduction programs. Such progress demonstrates a transition from dependence on managed breeding and care programs to self-sustaining reproduction in the wild, confirming the establishment of conditions necessary for ecological stability and population growth. The Arabian sand gazelle is one of the most prominent environmental symbols of the Arabian Peninsula. Its population declined over the […]

Saudi Arabia Confirms Missile Fired From Yemen To Another Country Fails, Lands Near Border

Saudi Ministry of Defense confirmed that a ballistic missile fired from Yemen on Monday failed to reach its intended target and landed in an uninhabited area near the Saudi-Yemeni border. “The missile veered off course due to technical issues. A technical review and investigations revealed that the missile was originally intended for another regional country,” said Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman of the ministry. “Further to the statement issued on Monday evening regarding the launch of a ballistic missile from Yemen and its disappearance near the border, the results of the investigations and technical review showed that the missile had been launched toward a regional state,” he said. “The ballistic missile failed due to technical reasons and deviated from its course. This resulted in inaccurate indications regarding its intended target direction before it fell in an uninhabited area near the Saudi-Yemeni border,” he said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency. In a statement earlier, Al-Maliki denied reports circulating on social media claiming that Prince Sultan Air Base in Al-Kharj had come under attack. He explained that the activation of warning sirens in Al-Kharj before dawn was a precautionary measure following the launch of a ballistic missile from […]

Hotter Summer Ahead As Oman Faces Months Of Above-Average Heat

MUSCAT: Oman is likely to experience above-average temperatures throughout the summer months of June, July and August 2026, according to the latest seasonal climate bulletin issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The outlook, released by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre, indicates that temperatures across the Sultanate are expected to remain higher than the climatological average during all three months. For June 2026, the forecast shows a high probability of temperatures exceeding normal levels across Oman. Similar conditions are expected in July, with above-average temperatures forecast to prevail over most parts of the country. The trend is projected to continue into August, when temperatures are also expected to remain above the long-term average, suggesting a prolonged period of hotter-than-usual weather across the Sultanate. In addition to the heat outlook, the CAA said rainfall during June is expected to remain below average in several parts of the country. The forecast predicts reduced rainfall activity, particularly in eastern and southeastern regions of Oman, while the rest of the Sultanate is likely to receive near-average to slightly below-average precipitation. The authority noted that the monthly seasonal bulletin is designed to provide an early indication of weather trends over longer periods, helping authorities, […]

Oman Air Looks To Order Narrowbody Jets

Oman Air is looking to order aircraft to replace aging planes and serve more routes for the national carrier, CEO Con Korfiatis told Reuters on Sunday. Korfiatis did not disclose any deal timeline or number of planes, but said he was looking at narrowbody jets with lay-flat beds that appeal to premium passengers and can profitably carry fewer travellers than a widebody jet on long-haul routes, such as Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul. “Something we’ve done in the last couple of years that we weren’t doing in the past is long-haul flights with narrowbody aircraft,” the CEO told Reuters on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “We see an opportunity to serve the market with this product.” The carrier was thrust into the limelight in March when Oman and Saudi Arabia offered alternative travel routes to tens of thousands of people in the Gulf trying to escape Iranian airstrikes following the US-Israeli war on Iran. Oman Air needed to accommodate about four to five times the normal number of passengers during the crisis. “To have that many people come across the border for flights, it certainly operationally challenged us in […]

India Rescues 24 Crewmembers From Stricken Tanker Off Oman After US Airstrike

US Navy forces have announced a new Monday direction action operation in the Gulf of Oman. The US has cited that the vessel refused to respond to orders related to the blockade of Iranian naval ports. The ship attempted to sail to an Iranian port, in violation of the ongoing blockade. A CENTCOM statement indicated that the military “disabled Palau-flagged M/T Marivex as it transited international waters in the Gulf of Oman toward Iran.” “An F/A-18 Super Hornet from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) fired a precision munition into the ship’s engineering and steering spaces after the crew failed to comply with directions from U.S. forces,” the statement continued. “Marivex is no longer sailing to Iran,” it said. The Pentagon has also reviewed the following since initiating the blockade on April 13. This is the same vessel which took on US military fire: Indian navy helicopters airlifted 24 sailors off a tanker on fire off the coast of Oman on Monday, New Delhi officials said, without saying what caused the blaze. India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said a fire was reported at around 1:30 p.m. (0800 GMT) on the MT Marivex, a Palau-flagged tanker. “There has been a […]

Saudi Arabia Lifts Warning After Early Morning Alert For Al-Kharj

Saudi Arabia issued a warning for Al-Kharj governorate early Monday, as state media reported sirens.  The Saudi Civil Defense, at 5:28AM, said: “A warning has been issued by the National Early Warning Platform in Al-Kharj Governorate to warn of a danger,” and urged the general public to follow official instructions, including taking shelter in a safe place. The notice came after a dramatic escalation on Sunday between Iran and Israel, with both launching missiles at each other and risking a fragile ceasefire which has allowed negotiations to take place to find a lasting solution in the Middle East war. Iran launched missiles at Israel after Tehran had threatened to do so when the Israeli military struck the southern suburbs of Beirut. Israel struck back by hitting a number of Iranian cities early on Monday, including the capital Tehran.  Saudi Arabia spent most of March shooting down Iranian drones and missiles in near-daily attacks after the US and israel launched a war against Iran on Feb. 28.  The Kingdom and other Gulf Arab nations condemned the March attacks across the Middle East as “reckless and destabilizing”.
