A major gold smuggling attempt was thwarted by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi. During the night shift between January 12 and 13, officials seized 1.94 kg of gold, valued at ₹14,170,531 (approximately 63,900 Bahraini Dinars), concealed within trolley bags. The passengers, who arrived from Bahrain on Gulf Air flight GF-134 on January 12, 2025, were intercepted in the Arrival Hall. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Customs officials uncovered the cleverly concealed gold during a thorough inspection. The first passenger, a 38-year-old Indian male, was found carrying 15 silver-colored metal wires hidden inside the linings of his trolley bags. These wires, which weighed 1,528 grams, were made of gold and valued at ₹11,115,283 (approximately 50,100 BHD). The concealment was designed to evade detection, but the keen eye of the AIU officers ensured the smuggling attempt was foiled. The second passenger, a 34-year-old Indian female, adopted a similar method, concealing four silver-colored metal wires in her trolley bags. These wires weighed 420 grams and were valued at ₹3,055,248 (approximately 13,800 BHD). The close resemblance in their methods suggests a coordinated operation. The combined seizure amounted to 1.948 kg of gold, with a […]

A Bahraini lawyer appeared in the High Criminal Court on Monday, facing forgery charges. He is accused of fabricating a civil court ruling to facilitate the transfer of property ownership from two individuals to a real estate company. The 41-year-old man pleaded not guilty, denying any wrongdoing. As per the case records, the Public Prosecution alleges that the lawyer fabricated a court ruling, purportedly issued by the High Civil Court on October 21, 2024. The prosecution claims the lawyer created a false ruling, mimicking genuine rulings, and then used it, knowing it was forged, by sending it to a representative of the real estate company and presenting it to the individuals involved in the property transaction. A key witness, the head of legal affairs at the Ministry of Justice, testified that a designated individual submitted the forged ruling in a case brought by the real estate company against the two property owners and the Land Registry. The ruling, falsely claiming the validity of a preliminary sale agreement, was intended to prompt the Land Registry to approve the property transfer. However, subsequent verification with the Ministry of Justice revealed the ruling to be fraudulent; the numbers cited belonged to other cases, […]

Bahrain is planning a $30 billion surge in infrastructure projects, which includes 22 major developments such as five artificial islands. The construction market is forecast to grow to $3.17 billion by 2025 and $3.89 billion by 2030, according to a report by Mordor Intelligence. Public-private partnerships are expected to drive much of this growth, in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. The government’s efforts to back large-scale construction projects are a key force behind the market’s expansion. Productivity Reforms led by the Economic Development Board are also improving productivity across the building and design sectors. However, the report acknowledges that the industry faced setbacks in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and falling oil prices. Bahrain stands out in the Gulf for offering comparatively low construction costs. Its designation as a ‘free zone’ allows 100% foreign ownership of businesses and properties. Investors This, coupled with the free movement of profits and capital, makes the country attractive to investors. In 2021, the government allocated BD600 million ($1.6 billion) to fund projects over two years. These funds have supported developments in infrastructure, housing, health, education, sports, culture, and utilities. Economic diversification Among the largest initiatives is a $30 billion plan that includes […]
