The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has announced the opening of reservations for a limited-edition commemorative silver coin to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s reign. The first batch of this special release will be available for reservation starting Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The coin, which is priced at 125 Bahraini Dinars, weighs 62.2 grams and will be issued in a limited quantity of just 1,000 coins. On the obverse, the coin features a portrait of His Majesty King Hamad along with the Silver Jubilee emblem. The reverse side displays a detailed 3D representation of Sakhir Palace, marking the first time the CBB has employed advanced 3D technology to enhance the coin’s design. In line with His Majesty’s directives, all proceeds from the coin sales will be donated to charitable causes and humanitarian funds through the Royal Humanitarian Foundation. Those interested in purchasing the coin can reserve their order through the “Appointments” application, available on Bahrain’s e-Government App Store at www.bahrain.bh/apps. Rain fell on parts of Saudi Arabia early on Sunday, with officials forecasting thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds. Overcast skies dominated the day in the capital Riyadh, which recorded moderate rainfall in the morning. The National Center of Meteorology forecast strong winds, hail and thunderstorms, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The weather office also warned of potential near-zero visibility and flooding in some areas. In the southern Jazan region, heavy rain was reported earlier in the day, affecting Jazan City for Basic and Transformative Industries, as well as the governorates of Ad-Darb, Beesh and the Farasan Islands. The center issued alerts for Jazan, warning of thunderstorms, high waves and strong winds in the region. Areas including Sabya, Abu Arish, Al-Harith, Ad-Dayer, Fifa, and Harub were highlighted in the advisory. Residents were cautioned about the risk of reduced visibility and localized flooding in affected areas. Earlier this week, parts of Saudi Arabia, including Asir, Makkah, and Madinah regions, experienced similar weather conditions. Expect a partly cloudy to cloudy day at times tomorrow (January 13), the National Centre of Meteorology said in its weather forecast for the UAE. It also mentioned a probability of light rainfall over some coastal and Northern areas. The forecast further says it will become humid by night and Tuesday morning over some internal areas with a probability of mist formation. Light to moderate Northwesterly winds will blow, freshening gradually by afternoon, with a speed of 15km/hour and 30km/hour and even reaching 40 km/hr. The sea will be moderate, gradually becoming rough by afternoon in the Arabian Gulf and slight in Oman Sea.

The UAE is developing a space craft to land on an asteroid belt beyond Mars. In the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council, the UAE Space Agency and the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) signed an agreement to design and develop the EMA Lander. It will be aboard the MBR Explorer, and will be deployed to study the 7th asteroid Justitia, as part of the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt (EMA). UAE Asteroid Belt mission The agreement was signed by Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, and Faisal Al Bannai, Secretary-General of the Advanced Technology Research Council. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the second bridge within the Phase 4 of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. This newly constructed bridge facilitates traffic flow from the intersection of Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road. The bridge spans 605m, comprising two lanes with a designed capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. Sheikh Rashid Road in Dubai Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project encompasses the construction of four bridges with a total length of 3.1km and a combined capacity of about 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes. The first bridge was opened in December 2024. It facilitates traffic flow from the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road towards Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection. This bridge spans 1.335km, featuring three lanes and a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. Another bridge is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2025. The Makkah Region Police arrested 10 Pakistani residents after their involvement in about 31 financial fraud crimes. The gang was succeeded in getting hold of more than SR2.8 million through fraudulent operations of selling counterfeit gold bars. The Makkah police said in a statement that the fraudsters adopted a criminal approach by displaying gold bars and lured their victims to buy them in an illegal way. It was revealed in investigations that the modus operandi of the gang in their fraudulent practice was that they used to convince their victims about the profitable business through gaining their trust by offering intact gold bars during the initial phase of negotiations with them. However, eventually they hand them over metal pieces resembling gold, and then vanish from sight. The Financial Fraud Combating Unit in the Public Security arrested the members of the gang and referred them to the Public Prosecution after taking legal measures against them.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority issued a warning about Country Butcher Boy beef pepperoni, manufactured in the UAE. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the 250-gram packages with an expiration date of March 1, 2025, are contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium posing serious health risks, confirmed by lab tests. The authority advised the public to avoid consuming the product and dispose of any units they may have. Steps have been taken to remove the contaminated product from the market, and regulatory action is being pursued against the importing company, the SPA reported. Violations of food laws can result in severe penalties, including up to 10 years in prison, fines of up to SR10 million ($2.6 million), or both. The authority reiterated its commitment to food safety and will continue taking action against violators. Consumers can report food safety concerns to the authority’s call center at 19999.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has formulated new rules for practicing the recruitment activity and providing labor services. According to the new rules, a large human resources company is required to submit a bank guarantee worth SR0 million and a paid-up capital amounting to SR100 million to obtain a license for a period of 10 years. The conditions included that medium-sized recruitment companies must have a bank guarantee of SR5 million and a paid-up capital of SR50 million to obtain a 5-year license, and the same license period for recruitment companies that have a bank guarantee of SR2 million and a paid-up capital of SR10 million. The small recruitment companies that have a bank guarantee of SR2 million and a paid-up capital of SR5 million will have the 5-year license period. The ministry also stipulated that the licensed company must be a joint-stock company with capital fully owned by Saudi individuals. A license is also granted to a foreign investor who meets the requirements for foreign investment in these rules, and meets the minimum paid-up capital and bank guarantee, taking into account of the provisions of the Companies Law.
