Global COVID-19 cases cross 81.5 Million; death toll at 1,781,355

More than 81.5 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,781,355 have died, according to a Reuters tally.

Russia on Wednesday reported 26,513 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, including 5,105 in Moscow, pushing the national tally to 3,131,550. Authorities said 599 people had died overnight, taking the official death toll to 56,426.

In Germany, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases increased by 22,459 to 1,687,185 and the reported death toll rose by 1,129 to 32,107, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Wednesday.

The Czech Republic reported a record high 16,329 daily cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday. The central European country of 10.7 million has been one of the worst hit, with its total number of detected cases reaching 701,622 with 11,429 deaths.
