Abu Dhabi Launches Automated Electric Bus Service With 25 Stations and 27KM Route

Abu Dhabi has announced the launch of a new rapid transit transport system in the city.

The new tram-style electric buses will carry passengers across Abu Dhabi and stop at 25 stations along a 27km route.

With each of the electric “buses” carrying up to 200 people it will provide a major boost to travel in the emirate.

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), officially announced the launch of the pilot phase of the Automated Rapid Transit – ART project on Abu Dhabi Island.

The pilot phase includes operating 25 stations along routes extending for about 27 km, paving the way for a new and distinctive phase of technological development in the transport sector.

During its initial phase, the service operates from Friday to Sunday, and runs from Al Reem Mall to Marina Mall, passing along Zayed the First Street and Corniche Street on Abu Dhabi island.

ITC plans to develop an integrated and smart public transportation system that supports local development across various sectors and contributes to enhancing mobility options for residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi.
