World’s Best Airport 2024 Revealed: Which Middle East Hub Won Top Prize?

The World Airport Awards 2024 have named the best aviation transport hubs, with major wins for the Middle East.

Qatar’s Hamad International Airport in Doha was the big winner of the night, and named the World’s Best Airport 2024 at the event held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Frankfurt.

Hamad International Airport also won awards for the World’s Best Airport Shopping and the Best Airport in the Middle East.

The World Airport Awards are prestigious accolades for the aviation industry, voted by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey.

Operating since 1999, the awards are independent and impartial, and provide a customer satisfaction study that is global in scope and coverage.

They are regarded as a quality benchmark for the world airport industry, assessing customer service and facilities across over 570 airports.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Badr Al Meer said: “This year HIA celebrates its milestone tenth year of operations and we are truly honoured that passengers have voted us Best Airport in the World for a third time.

“We are also delighted to bring home the top awards for Best Airport Shopping and the Best Airport in the Middle East for the second consecutive and tenth time respectively.

“Skytrax prestigious awards reflect the dedication of our employees who every day help innovating and maintaining our leading position.

Hamad International Airport was not the only regional winner on the night, with recognition for airports in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain also notable.

Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport (Madinah Airport) was named the Best Regional Airport in the Middle East for 2024.

This recognition underscores Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport’s steadfast commitment to delivering top-notch services and an exceptional travel experience to passengers.

It solidifies the airport’s position as one of the world’s premier airports, having climbed two positions to secure the 50th rank on the list of the world’s top 100 airports.

The CEO of Tibah Airports Operation Company, Sofiene Abdessalem, expressed his pride at the achievement.

In March, Governor of Madinah Region Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz inaugurated the second phase of the airport’s expansion project.

This phase includes the development of the terminal and the establishment of a new terminal for domestic flights. The project aims to increase the airport’s capacity to accommodate up to 17m passengers annually by the end of 2027, more than doubling its previous capacity of 8m passengers.

Bahrain International Airport achieved notable success, recognised for providing the Best Airport Staff Service in the Middle East.

Other notable prizes at the Skytrax awards include Tokyo Haneda Airport being declared the World’s Cleanest Airport and the World’s Best Domestic Airport.

Tokyo Narita Airport was recognised for customer service, as it was named the World’s Best Airport Staff and Best Airport Staff in Asia.

Elsewhere in Japan, New Chitose Airport was voted the World’s Most Improved Airport, after a much improved performance in the global survey, and across many of the category sections.

Rome Fiumicino Airport picked up the award for World’s Best Airport Security Processing.

Terminal A, Newark Liberty Airport achieved success as the World’s Best New Airport Terminal, after earlier receiving the highest 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating from Skytrax.

Istanbul Airport was voted World’s Best Airport Dining Experience.

Delhi International Airport was again triumphant as the Best Airport in India and South Asia. Bangalore International Airport won the award for Best Regional Airport in India and South Asia..

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport was named World’s Best Airport Hotel, for the ninth time in the awards history.

The awards are based on the World Airport Survey questionnaires completed by more than 100 nationalities of airport customers during the survey period, which operated from August 2023 to March 2024. The survey evaluated the customer experience across airport service and product key performance indicators – from check in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security / immigration through to departure at the gate.
