Hollywood Film Shot in Saudi Arabia Premieres in Riyadh
A new Hollywood film featuring Gerard Butler that was shot almost entirely in Saudi Arabia premiered at Vox Cinemas in Riyadh on Wednesday evening.
Kandahar opened to the public on Thursday and follows the story of Tom Harris (Butler), an undercover CIA operative stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. After Harris’ mission to attack Iranian nuclear facilities is exposed, he must fight his way out alongside his Afghan translator.
“We aim for big, and that was our mandate: To maximise the benefits from having this film to be here for our talents, and for our local businesses as well,” Fahad al-Suwayan, National and International Incentives Director at the Saudi Film Commission said.
Local filmmakers gained valuable experience from working together with the team behind Kandahar, al-Suwayan said.
