Gulf countries protest against BJP leaders’ remarks on Prophet Mohammed

The inflammatory remarks by official ruling party in India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionaries against Prophet Mohammed have resulted in a major diplomatic embarrassment for India. On Sunday, June 5, Qatar, Kuwait and Iran summoned Indian envoys to lodge their protest against the remarks.

The Gulf state of Qatar demanded a “public apology” from the Indian government over the controversial remarks. India conveyed to Qatar that the BJP had already suspended the party members, and the “derogatory comments” were only the views of “fringe elements”.

Late night, Iran also announced that the Indian ambassador Gaddam Dharmendra had been summoned the foreign ministry.
