India’s bilateral relations with Qatar will not be affected by the ongoing Qatar-GCC battle, says Anwar Gargash, state foreign minister of the UAE. “India is a valued partner and we wanted to put India in the picture, and reassure India.” Gargash met foreign minister Sushma Swaraj, NSA Ajit Doval and minister of state for foreign affairs M.J. Qatar is India’s largest source of natural gas – Petronet LNGBSE 2.57 %, India’s biggest gas importer, buys 8.5 million tonnes a year of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar under a long-term contract. The Indian population in the country currently stands at around 650,000, and their mobility and future would be a matter of concern.
