On the special occasion of Bahrain’s National Day, Gulf Insider takes a closer look at relationships between Bahrain and some of its major trading partners.
What are your country’s main trading activities with Bahrain?
There has been tremendous growth in the bilateral trade between India and Bahrain over the last two years. India’s non-oil exports to Bahrain have seen a growth of 16.9%, while India’s non-oil imports from Bahrain are 58.20%. Bahrain’s oil export to India is 96.87%. The total trade between the two countries has seen a growth of 47.40%.
Is there anything that makes your country’s relationship with Bahrain special?
The close and friendly relations between India and Bahrain have developed into a close and mutually beneficial partnership in recent years. India- Bahrain relations are symbolized by civilization connect and age-old cultural ties. The two countries have been together from the Indus Valley civilization and Dilmun civilization. Trade has been a foundation of the relationship that has evolved over the years. The high level visits between the two countries have nurtured this relationship and have provided a strong foundation to the dynamic leadership of two countries. Interior investment in Bahrain has been going.
Any interesting news, recent or historical, about your country’s relations with Bahrain?
Today, India’s relations with Bahrain is at an all-time high and has considerably widened to cover a range of areas including Security, Infrastructure and Investment, High- tech, Health, Renewable Energy and Food Security. One of the landmark developments this year is the opening of the new Indian Embassy in Bahrain which was inaugurated by the External Affairs Minister and the Foreign Affairs Minister of Bahrain.
This whole embassy represents the historic close civilizational bonds between the two countries. The mural in the entrance lobby depicts the India- Bahrain friendship which is an expression of the ties and relationship the two countries enjoy. New areas of cooperation have been identified and the two countries are working together in every sphere of economic, cultural and political relationship.
