UAE Announces AED200,000 Fines on Cheap Chicken, Eggs

Following the UAE Ministry of Economy’s decision to increase the price of eggs and poultry, inspections have been carried out to monitor prices and enable good business practices to enhance market stability. Penalties will be imposed by the ministry for stores that fail to comply with the approved price hikes. Fines start at AED10,000 and can go up to AED200,000 for repeat offenders.

Further details regarding the fines will be revealed soon, according to reports by local media. A price hike for chicken and eggs was announced last month by the Ministry of Economy, increasing the prices of eggs by 13 per cent. Prices are temporary and set to be further reviewed within six months.

The Ministry of Economy approved the price increase, following the issuance of Ministerial Resolution No. 41 of 2023, earlier in March. The decision was implemented following requests from companies due to high production and shipping costs. The price of eggs is controlled in the UAE and suppliers require prior approval from the Ministry before implementing any changes.
