Kuwait: assembly panel rejects screening foreigners at airport

The Head of Kuwait’s National Assembly’s Legal and Legislative Committee MP Al-Humaidi Al Subaie said that the panel rejected a draft law calling to screen foreigners on their entry at the airport saying it breaches the constitution.

Subaie said that the bill on foreigners is incomplete and objectionable since it includes every expatriate who arrives at Kuwait Airport like investors, tourists, and normal visitors. He said there are United Nations laws that prohibit such screening for all and it also contradicts Kuwaiti constitution and laws.

He said that the panel may have approved the bill had it only covered certain groups of expatriates like laborers or those coming from an infected country but it cannot be applied to all since it could have the suspicion of discrimination.
