The Kuwait health ministry approved a decision to increase the delivery (birth) charges for expatriates registered in the health insurance system to be effective as of Nov 9, 2019, reports Al-Rai daily.
Fees for delivery, room rent have been increased by 100% in all hospitals under the ministry. The new rates came into force since October 8.
As per the revision, the charges for normal delivery under the health ministry’s insurance system for expatriate women has been increased to KD 100 from KD 50. Meanwhile, for caesarean (C-section) deliveries, it is KD 150.
Apart from that, the room rent has been increased to KD 100 per day. Earlier for three days, no fees were charged.
Health sources confirmed that the decision to increase maternity fees for expatriates was taken considering increased wages of medical staff and the difference in maternity fees between the public and private sectors. Even after revising the fees, it is less than that in private hospitals, health authorities said.
