Bahrain to witness partial solar eclipse this Tuesday
People in Bahrain are fortunate enough to witness a partial solar eclipse this Tuesday, said Muhammad Reda Al-Asfoor, an astronomer.
The eclipse, he said, begins at 01:32 pm and reaches its peak at 02:44 pm, where the Moon covers 39% of the Sun’s surface. After this, the eclipse fades as the Moon gradually emerges from the other side of the Sun.
The journey continues until 03:50 pm.
This eclipse also coincides with the birth of the new crescent moon of Rabi’ al-Thani (the fourth month of the Islamic year) for the year 1444 AH at 01:48 pm.
Al-Thani said the partial eclipse takes two hours and 18 minutes to conclude. Prayer timings in Bahrain are from 01:32 pm to 03:50 pm.
“This eclipse starts from northwest Europe and covers most of Europe and the eastern parts of Greenland, as well as large parts of Russia, western and southern Asia, the Middle East, the Arabian Gulf and Northeast Africa.”
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby obscuring Earth’s view of the Sun, totally or partially.
The last solar eclipse witnessed in Bahrain was about two and half years ago, on the 21st of June 2020. The next visible (partial) eclipse in Bahrain will be on the 2nd of August 2027.
A l -Thania so warned against looking directly at the Sun, especially during the eclipse, as this could lead to severe eye damage.
He advised those wishing to see the astronomical phenomenon to use projectors and special filters to protect eyes from harmful solar rays.
