Bahrain: Toddler Run Over By School Bus; Driver in Custody

A three-year-old girl died in Bahrain after being run over by a kindergarten bus just as she had disembarked from the vehicle in front of her house.

Despite their initial horror at the accident, the Asian driver and bus supervisor hurried Fatima to the Salmaniya Medical Complex. Fatima’s brothers, Hussein and Muhammad, who witnessed the gruesome incident, were in disbelief when they saw her blood scattered in front of their house and her shoes smeared with blood.

The family immediately rushed to the hospital, where Fatima was already being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Accident and Emergency Department. The Attorney General of the Traffic Prosecution reported that the Public Prosecution received a report of a traffic accident that led to the death of the girl.

The incident involved the defendants, both Asian nationals, transporting the girl from her school to her home. The supervisor allowed the girl to get out of the vehicle without accompanying her, thus violating instructions.

The driver of the vehicle admitted to the accusation attributed to him, and the Public Prosecution ordered their provisional detention pending the case and referred them to custody before the competent criminal court.
