Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah ordered the dissolution of Kuwait’s National Assembly (parliament) and the suspension of some constitutional articles for up to four years, pending a “revision of the democratic process in its entirety.”
In a national address on Friday evening, he remarked on the challenging times faced by Kuwait, which have impacted all aspects of life and fostered a negative reality.
The Emir expressed that repeated efforts had been made to provide guidance to navigate these conditions with minimal losses. Despite these efforts, he described encountering “unimaginable, unbearable difficulties and impediments,” with some individuals resolutely blocking every possible exit from these harsh realities.
With no other options remaining to safeguard the country and protect its higher national interests and resources, the Emir explained that this difficult decision was necessary to rescue the country.
