The global live entertainment industry is gearing up for a major change in its international calendar. Two of the most influential organisations in the sector, the International Live Music Conference (ILMC) and Pollstar, have teamed up to launch the Live Summit Middle East. This inaugural event will take place in Abu Dhabi from 7 to 8 December 2026. The summit represents the first collaboration between these two industry giants focused on the Middle East, highlighting the region’s growing role in the multi-billion-dollar global touring market.

The event is hosted by the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi, and is produced by Ethara, which is known for managing the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. By bringing together 500 senior leaders, the summit aims to create a central hub for decision-makers who oversee live music, sports, and cultural festivals. Attendees will include international promoters, venue operators, talent agents, technology innovators, and regional policymakers.

A Strategic Entry into a High-Growth Market

The decision to hold this summit comes at a time when the Middle East is seeing a remarkable increase in live entertainment investment. Industry data shows that the region is not just a stop for occasional international tours; it has become a key destination for global artists and sporting events. New venues are opening throughout the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, and consumer demand for high-quality live experiences is at an all-time high.

Greg Parmley, the head of London-based ILMC, pointed out that the rapid growth of shows and venues in the Middle East calls for a regular annual forum for industry professionals. Likewise, Andy Gensler, Editor in Chief of Pollstar, described the Middle East as one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. Gensler noted that the combination of world-class touring schedules and quick venue expansion makes Abu Dhabi an ideal spot for global leaders to discuss the future of the industry.

The summit will focus on specific logistical, financial, and cultural challenges associated with operating in the Middle East. Key topics are likely to include developing touring circuits, integrating new event technologies, and creating sustainable business models for local festivals.

Schedule and Economic Integration

The timing of the Live Summit Middle East is aligned with the regional sporting calendar. The conference starts right after the 2026 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, ensuring that many top executives from sports, hospitality, and brand partnerships will already be in the area. To encourage participation, all delegates will get access to the race and its concerts, which have historically featured some of the biggest musical acts.

After two days of panel discussions and roundtables, the summit will offer a “Cultural Immersion Day” on 9 December. Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi, this day will introduce international delegates to the emirate’s cultural landmarks and infrastructure projects. This aligns with the government’s broader strategy of using live entertainment as a foundation for economic diversity and tourism growth.

Additionally, the event will introduce the Live Summit Awards. These awards will honour excellence in live entertainment production and management in the region, setting a standard for quality in the Middle Eastern market.

Strengthening Regional Professional Standards

One of the summit’s secondary goals is to professionalise the local workforce. In addition to networking opportunities for senior executives, the organisers aim to provide skills development and mentorship for emerging professionals in the region. This is particularly important as the Middle East seeks to lessen its dependency on foreign expertise and cultivate a local workforce capable of managing large-scale international productions.

Ethara’s involvement as the producer adds local operational knowledge. As the entity behind the Yas Marina Circuit and various iconic sporting and cultural events, Ethara has a strong interest in keeping Abu Dhabi as a leading destination for the live entertainment industry.

About the Organisers

The partnership between ILMC and Pollstar represents a significant pooling of industry expertise. Pollstar, often called The Voice of Live, is the main trade publication for the concert industry, providing the box office data and event listings that drive the business in North America and beyond. Its annual Pollstar Live! The conference in Los Angeles is currently the largest gathering of its kind.

ILMC has been the primary meeting point for the European and international live music business for nearly forty years. Based in London, it welcomes thousands of professionals from over 60 countries each year and publishes IQ, a leading trade magazine for the sector. Launching the Live Summit Middle East is the result of three years of “Middle East Live” programming within the London conference, signalling that the region has matured enough to warrant its own international summit.

As the live entertainment industry continues to globalise, the Abu Dhabi summit is set to become the main gateway for international firms looking to enter the Middle Eastern market and for regional players seeking to broaden their global presence.
