The Agriculture and Marine Resources has warned that locusts could reach Bahrain this week and urged farmers to be ready.

The department within the Ministry of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning referred to a statement issued by the locust center in Saudi Arabia stating that opposite air currents from the north and south this week are expected to carry swarms of locusts.

The locusts may reach the Eastern Province in Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries, including Bahrain, it added.

All farmers should be ready and inform the locust follow-up team in case locusts attack their crops. The necessary control operations should be taken only after taking safety precautions, it said.
